Subject: Here's why the 80's were better than the 90's:

Written By: April on 1/24/2000 at 9:20 p.m.

A friend sent these to me and I want to share them with you all!

Top Ten reasons the 80's were a cooler time to grow up than the 90's:

10) MTV actually played videos in the 80's.

9) There was only one kind of Nike tennis shoes (White with a red

swoosh), and they didn't cost $125.

8) A comb in your back pocket is more practical and less painful

than a ring through your nose.

7) In the 80's playing video games actually meant going out to DO

something.

6) In the 80's, when you were out partying, you didn't have to

worry about your Mom calling you on your cell phone.

5) In the 80s we didn't have to worry about getting our heads

blown off at school - unless you put a whole pack of Pop Rocks in your mouth

and drank a Coke.

4) Samantha Fox vs. Brittany Spears. New Kids on the Block vs.

N'Sync. New Edition vs. Hanson. Ok, that one's a draw.

3) In the early 80's there were kids in your high school who could

BUY ALCOHOL LEGALLY. Oh yeah!

2) Feathered hair was easier to care for than dreadlocks.

And the number one reason the 80's were a cooler time to grow up

than the 90's:

1) In the 80's you didn't have to worry about your pants falling

down all the time. They were so tight we couldn't get them off!

I lament the current ( and most probably permanent ) regard those have toward: the turntable. Go into an electronics/stereo store ( especially, the mass-merchandizers ) and ask for, say, a phono cartridge. The answer you'll get will be, with a nonplussed furrowing of the pierced brow, "A what?" Stereo to most people today is a 60" THX TV with a center channel speaker and a DVD ( in order to watch "Dumb and Dumber" for time without end ). The 12-inchers of the 80's were the exemplar of the vinyl species. Ever try to scratch and mix with CD's ? High-end shops still stock wonderful equipment ( B&O, for example ), but at a very high price. Gosh, are Technics turntables still around ?

Stereo systems should be dedicated systems, dedicated solely to accurate ( and loud ) music reproduction. Amp, preamp, tuner, cassette deck, phono, speakers. Period. The 90's and 00's lean much more to the "V" in "AV."

And don't forget the Discwasher !

I think what I miss the most is the beauty. Men were not afraid to wear makeup. Clothing and hair were both wild and colorful. Nowadays, I am surrounded by buzz-cuts and cargo pants. The 80s spoiled me. I don`t seem to find anyone attractive anymore.

I'm not even going to comment on this, but it still hurts to see everyone putting the 90s down.

peace, lori

P.S. Can we just stick to how much we loved the 80s on this messageboard as opposed to this "80s vs. 90s" garbage? It's pretty pathedic!

I thought you weren't going to comment on it?? Anyway, it's all meant in fun...maybe you should just stick to reading the 90's message board?? Just a suggestion.
