Subject: Weird Spartacus Cartoon on Nickelodeon...

Written By: Will Mistretta on 2/3/2000 at 9:04 p.m.

Hello all. Am I the only one who remembers the trippy-a** cartoons that Nickelodeon used to show between around 4:00-6:00 AM on weekday mornings in the late eighties? Stuff like Cities of Gold (which had the single most evil theme music of any cartoon I've ever heard) and The Little Prince? Well, one show in particular was so weird that I thought I'd bring it up just to make sure I didn't hallucinate the whole thing. It was called something like Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea. It was sort of a freaky sci-fi/fantasy cartoon with an anime-like art style. Notably odd characters include a pair of weird yellow, armadillo-looking things with a really weird theme song and a gang of crazy pirates (the Pirates of the Sea), with an equally weird, but much more catchy theme. Does anyone else remember this show, or am I just insane?
