Subject: 80's Love Songs????????HELP

Written By: Tanya on 2/8/2000 at 11:56 a.m.

The 80's seem devoid of meaningful love songs (just me?)by "alternative" artists of the time. I'm looking for a first dance song for my wedding & grew up in the 80's & love the bands. I JUST CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING! Anyone have any suggestions?? My only pick so far is "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel (sooooo overdone for weddings though!!).

Congratulations. My picks (some repeats, some new): Forever Young-Alphaville, In the Flesh-Blondie, Slave to Love-Bryan Ferry, True-Spandau Ballet, Only You-Alison Moyet, The Promise-When In Rome. Not quite appropriate, but really pretty: Alison-Elvis Costello, Avalon-Roxy Music

"Kissing A Fool," George Michael ( 1987 ). Lovely song --- and nice slow foxtrot number.

Enjoy.

Oh, crud--I just looked at your message again--I had forgotten that you specified alternative artists. Please disregard my very America's Top 40 choices. The Depeche Mode and Cure choices are excellent--"Just Like Heaven" is a good song if you're not especially looking for a slow-dance song. How about "Pale Blue Eyes" by R.E.M.? Or "Never Tear Us Apart" (INXS)? Again, best wishes, Clancy

I just thought of another one--"All I Want Is You" from U2's underrated album "Rattle and Hum." Kind of a melancholy tone, but a sweet song nonetheless. Seems like all the alternative 80s love songs were angst-filled.
