Subject: "Spend my life with You"

Written By: jordant on 2/10/2000 at 9:11 p.m.

I am looking for a song which I think was titled "Spend my Life with You". I thought a group named Charlie sung this in the early eighties. I know I had the cassette tape in 82-83. This was 'our song' for me and my girl friend who is now my wife of 15 years. I lost the tape and I can't find a new one anywhere. The chorus: There's nothing in the world I'd rather do Than to spend my life with you The first time that I saw your face I knew I knew that you'd come through I want to hold you in my arms and you tell me that you want me, too

Although not a hit single for the group, "Spend My Life With You" was indeed by Charlie. (Yes, definitely a great tune!) It was off their 1983 album, simply titled "Charlie". I, too, bought that album on cassette back when it first came out over 16 years ago, after hearing the lead single, "It's Inevitable" on the radio - I was instantly hooked, and have been a huge fan ever since. In fact, that '83 album is still one of my all-time faves to this day, and I still listen to my cassette fairly often. (Have 3-4 original copies of that "Charlie" cassette now, LOL!) Unfortunately, the album is long out-of-print, and has never been re-issued on CD here in the U.S. However, it does exist on CD as an import...

Wow, I never knew who did "It's Inevitable"!! I get that song in my head every time I hear the word "inevitable". Wasn't there a video? If so, what was going on in it?

"It's Inevitable" proved to be Charlie's biggest hit, just barely cracking the Top 40 here in the U.S. in the Summer of '83. (Their debut album, "Fantasy Girls", came out seven years earlier, in 1976, and their final album, "In Pursuit of Romance", was released in '86.) Yes, there was indeed a video for the song, but to this day, I've never seen it! :-( That's because our cable company at the time didn't start carrying MTV till 1984. Still, it's always great to know there are other folks out there who remember this song, and the group. Ah yes, I'm playing it now: "It's inevitable...like the heat of the sun/It's inevitable...I'm gonna make you the one/It's inevitable...like the fire in your touch/It's inevitable...'cause I want you - I want you so-o-o much...". (Hmmm, I think it's about time I played this one for my gf, LOL!)

BTW, after Charlie split in '87, founder/leader Terry Thomas had already established himself as a respected songwriter & producer. In fact, he resurrected Bad Company under new lead singer Brian Howe in the late '80s/early '90s ("No Smoke Without a Fire", "If You Needed Somebody", "How About That", etc.), and also produced albums for Foreigner and Tesla, among others...
