I think they all gave you informational material. BUT, if you are truely starting "From Scratch" I would highly recommend the "Oblivious" compilation series. There are a total of six CDs. I would start off with volume one and two for starters. I am guessing these might be a little hard to find now.

No 80's music collection would be complete without these bands: Mr. Mister,Cock Robin, Rick Springfield, ABC, Missing Persons, Duran Duran, The Cutting Crew, Paul Young, Tears For Fears, The Physcedelic Furs, Til' Tuesday, Simple Minds, INXS....dare I go on?

Were you suggesting that you are starting from scratch, or that you just wanted to know about A-ha, Billy Idol and Band-Aid?

If so, sorry to insult your 80's intelligence in assuming you wouldn't know to include these bands in your collection.

'Do They Know It's Christmas?' can be found on 'If I Was - The Very Best of Midge Ure and Ultravox'. It is included in this compilation since Ure co-wrote and co-produced it. It's quite a good collection including 'Dancing With Tears In My Eyes', 'Vienna', and even 'Fade To Grey' by Visage.

I don't know about Band Aid. As for Billy Idol, you can't go wrong with "Rebel Yell" or "Idol Songs". A-Ha's "Take On Me" can be found on "Hunting High & Low" and "Headlines & Deadlines". This last A-Ha album is a collection of their best songs. "Take On Me" is also featured in so many compilation cd's such as "Totally 80's". Hope this helps...
