Subject: The design of this site..

Written By: ChuckyG on 2/22/2000 at 9:11 p.m.

I don't get much feedback about the layout of the site, if you're reading this message and have a moment, just respond and let me know:

1) if you like the site layout overall

2) is it easy to find what you want/need

3) does it load quickly?

if you can think of a site that you've visted lately that looked nice and was easy to use, regardless of the subject matter, let me know...

I'm trying to come up with a new layout for the music/movie/tv/fad index pages on the 70s/90s sites (and eventually this one) and after looking at about 20 sites that talk about design, I can safely say, I like none of them.. they're all too complex when you look at them (a million things cramed into a tiny space) or they rely on tons of graphics which would make a regular user's browser just choke..

I can make the site as complex or as simple as I like.. I just think that the strength of the site has always been that there's no:

1) flashing text,

2) animated gifs (well except for ads),

3) MIDI music (ugh, I hate when that stuff loads up),

4) frames,

5) navigation buttons that rely on two or three images to load for each item before you know what they are.. but look wicked pretty when they do finally load, and oohhh, they move when you put your mouse over them...

6) title pages (ie. here's my site name, click on it before I show you what's here)

7) pop up windows

8) macromedia flash or other plugins which do nothing but paint a pretty picture

Do people think of this site as unprofessional because I don't go overboard with this stuff? I want the site to be more popular, but it seems like I win no real awards or special mention (ie, Yahoo wouldn't even give my site a description for the longest time, and I certainly don't rank a pair of sunglasses next to my name) which is fine by me, as long as the site is something people would come back to..

actually... I have been reviewed by newspapers and magazines a few times, it's just that in the online world, the site seems quickly dismissed..

Hi! You have a GREAT site. One of the reasons I go to it so often, is because it is so easy to navigate! It's a great layout, with a lot of fun and useful information. Please don't change a thing - we love it just the way it is!

Your site is just great ChuckyG! I totally agree with what Symple Mynd said, I love the site because of the content, you have put a lot of work into all of this and it is great! Keep it up! (Did you get my input on Mr. Mister, I added an album that was not listed)

yeah, I'm just way behind on adding stuff to the band pages, I need to hand edit those, the new sites use a custom script to handle all of it automaticlly.. so eventually I'll be using it on the 80s site to update it quicker
