Subject: Looking for: 80's music video compilations

Written By: Becky. on 3/5/2000 at 11:51 p.m.

Yeah, so. Does anyone know how I could get my hands on any 80's music video compilations? I was too young to appreciate the videos when they were on tv. Does such a thing even exist? I don't want a video of one artist. I want variety. mtv (no, they don't deserve capital letters) definitely leaves something to be desired.. *sigh*

Check out VH1 80's nights. Also, I've seen tons of videos at Suncoast, Blockbuster etc.

Good Luck!-Lindsey

I don't have any suggestions (sorry!) but after reading your message I was wondering why there doesn't seem to be anything like this out there (at least not in the stores I frequent). I think there would definitely be a big market for it. People make '80s CD compilations so video compilations, to me, makes perfect sense.

*sigh* My thoughts exactly.

Becky. (surprised that the videos haven't been exploited yet and wondering if perhaps it's due to some legal complications..)

While they may not make any compilations of '80s music videos today, they did back when it was still the '80s. And I'm talking both single-artist and various-artists compilations of the pre-recorded variety. Of course, they're all long out-of-print, and most are quite hard to find today. Generally speaking, most were made w/ about 12-16 videos on them. In addition to those sold commercially to the public in music/video stores, there were also the many that were manufactured for in-store play by specific record labels (featuring their own artists, of course), as well as those made for promotional use in clubs, etc. I just started collecting those by various artists over the last couple of years, and currently own about 7-8 different ones. Many I've won off of eBay, of course, and usually at a price of about $15-$20, including shipping. I must say, I've obtained some really killer vintage videos from the early to mid '80s this way (inc. stuff that I know was never shown on MTV) - everything from hard rock/heavy metal to pop, as well as classic soul/r&b and dance! (Earth, Wind & Fire's "Let's Groove", anyone??? Or perhaps "Heavy Metal Love" by Helix is more your style???)
