Subject: The 80's (of course!)

Written By: Lionel H. Thibault, Jr. on 4/21/2000 at 2:05 a.m.

While I sit here listening to Duran Duran and looking throught this fabulous site I cannot help but grow nostalgic for that glorious period of care free abandon and happy times. I truly miss the 80's! I don't know about my fellow 80's fans but time just seems to get more trippy as it goes by. For example: working with people who were born in the 80's. I start thinking "Wow, he was born when "Rio" came out"! Anyway, I just wanted to share my feelings with others of my generation and encourage you to respond with your feelings too!

We're still cool! :)

I remember when I was a kid...oh, pre-teen I suppose and always trying to figure out why my folks waxed nostalgic about the late 50's/early 60's...what was the big deal? Now I know...:)"You damned kids don't know what music is these days! Listenin' to that Puff Daddy/Britney Spears/Christina Aguli-whatsherface crap...now Duran Duran...THERE was some music!" Peace brothers and sisters!

OOPS, Gomen, sorry about the empty response before this, minor glitch w/ the fingers.

The 80's, looks like the "infinity" symbol paired w/ a "0". The way I see it is, that, it's an infinity of OOOOOOH's and AAAAAAAH's. I'm 29 right now. Thinking back, the 80's taught me the magic of this generation. Video games, MUSIC, and the awakening of the computer giants of today. I try at least in every dream, to live in this decade, That part; that taught me, of how I would perceive the world today.

I know what you mean. I'm 25 and I worked as an education reporter for a newspaper. I remember thinking when I interviewed some of the kids that they had no knowledge of Atari and "The A-Team" and the things that were the cornerstones of my elementary school days. I remember discussing with a high school principal where to hold an interview. When we decided on a place, he remarked "I love it when a plan comes together!" I laughed, but the high school students standing nearby gave us these really blank stares!

I had never realized just how "long ago" the 80's was..then I started seeing Time Life music presenting music from our era..and infomercials about the music I grew up listening to and living through! But the best example I have found is one that my husband went through, and came home and told me all about it. He had taken the 'Synchronicity' CD in to work and was listening to "Every Breath You Take" when a guy walked in and asked "Hey cool! Is that the new Puff Daddy CD???" I think that was when I truly knew I was "OLD" !! LOL! But you know what? Despite the way some talk about the 1980's, I'm proud to be a part of that generation, and I am so glad I was able to live it. I'll know we're still cool even as I watch in a year or so when "the 80's" is playing on NBC. :o)

I've had a similar reaction when discovering that I worked with people who were born in the 80s. It is also a wierd feeling when people occasionally post messages on this board saying things like: "I'm trying to find out who did this video - seeing it on MTV is one of my earliest childhood memories." It's hard to believe how fast time flies. A number of years ago I was listening to a classic rock program on the radio and they started playing the Alan Parson's Project. I remember thinking to myself: "This can't be right, this song isn't old enough to be considered 'classic rock'!" Then I did the math and realized that it was initially released well over a decade ago.
