Subject: sci-fi of the 80's

Just got thru watching **The Matrix**, again for the 2th time. The effects on it were really cutting edge. To a different note: In the middle part of the 80's there was this TV series (sci-fi) I saw. The story began, w/ this family, on some trip in Egypt, then they got transported to this place where there is a lot of "things" related to Egyptian crafts, like: Obelisks, monoliths w/ inscriptions of a way (I guess) on how to get back home.I keep thinking it was OTHER WORLD, but I could be wrong. Anyways, THE MATRIX was in my best opinion, the sci-fi that defined the 90's. A world, where the computer was the "BRAIN OF THE VIRTUAL WORLD".My reason: the 90's were dominated by the meteoric advances in computer technology. So, What sci-fi (tv or movie) best describes the 80's.
