... and they all went to heaven in a little row boat. Clap Clap... anyway, what was the name of that song? And who sang it? I thought it was the Clap(ing) Song, but I can't find anything on it. Thanks in advance :)

It is the Clapping Song by Shirley Ellis. It came out in 1965.

Thanks a lot! I remember when I used to hear the song and sing along with it on the radio (in the 80s), I was shocked to know that my mother knew that song. She said it was out when she was growing up. I thought it was redone in the 80's. Guess it was just the same song by the same artist.

Always trust your first instinct (sorry, "crazydon"). :-) Although "The Clapping Song" was indeed originally a Top 10 hit for Shirley Ellis in the Spring of '65, you're right, there actually was a popular re-make of that song done in the early '80s! "The Clapping Song" was also a moderate hit here in the U.S. for Pia Zadora in the Winter of '83. Clearly, that is the version you remember (while Mom recalled Ellis'). Unfortunately, Zadora's recording is long out-of-print here in the U.S...

Doesn't the song "Red Red Wine" by UB40 have the same line in it?

I was thinking the same exact thing Firemaiden. That's the first song (the only song) that came to my mind. April

It was the first thing that came to my mind too, but then I vaguely remembered children chanting the song. I always thought it was folklore!--you know, like little clap-songs and jump rope rhymes.
