Subject: Song ID Help...

Written By: Peter G. on 5/6/2000 at 10:12 a.m.

Would anyone happen to have any idea which group did a song which includes the lyrics:

"Back in the tropics Circuses and elephants Where the oranges grew"

At least, I think that's what they're saying.

Thanks...Peter G.

Subject: That's by The Church

Yay! I know this one! That would be "Metropolis" by The Church. A great 80s alternative band, whose biggest hit, if you could call it that, was "Under the Milky Way." Good luck finding it on Napster. I'd love to get one of The Church's CDs.

Actually, it may not be by the Church. I'm not 100% sure. It's worth checking out though.

Subject: P.S.

Probably goes without saying, but you're not hearing the lyrics correctly. It's not "tropics," it's "Back in Metropolis, Circuses and elephants, Where the oranges grew." Doesn't make sense, I know, but a great song anyway. Also, don't pay any attention to the person who told you to stop "spamming this board." People don't want to see all those lyrics in one posting; I know I don't. You're giving people a chance to respond to each one individually.

Thanks for the help, Clancy...and for making me feel a bit "less bad" about the multiple posts...indeed, I didn't think it would make much sense to post lyrics for ten or eleven different songs under a single post...thank goodness I'm almost finished going through those old cassettes, I'm not sure I ever knew which group had done what in many cases, as I just recorded the songs as they were good ones...anyway, thanks again!

Subject: I don't mind the multiple postings at all either..

and my word is final ... plus weekends are always slow on this messageboard, so it picked things up nicely.. I'd rather log in and see a dozen or two posts rather than one or two
