Subject: Fashion Emergency

Written By: Annie on 5/16/2000 at 3:32 p.m.

I need help. My friend is throwing an 80s party and I have no idea what to wear and where to get it. I live in nyc and if anyone else does maybe they could tell me where to go to get stuff. Or maybe someone knows a website with 80s clothes. Im pretty dense so I need someone who can tell me exactly what to wear not just generalizations. Thanks so much.

Jeesh, I wish I had an eighties party to go to. I still have my pink fringed suede jacket and fringed white leather boots. Oh, and you know what looked awesome with those items? My fringed belt that came to a "v" in the front. Don't laugh, I was stylin'.

I don't live in nyc but I did grow up in the eighties. Denim mini skirts, jeans that were very tight at the bottom (if they weren't tight enough, you folded them and rolled them up so they were tight). Big button down shirts layered (more than one) with the collars flipped up and a big wide belt around them. Also, lots of bracelets and BIG hoop earrings. If you can find flourescent stuff that was pretty popular. Your hair should be really BIG!! Flip your head over, spray with hairspray underneath and go! Check out the recent movie "The Wedding Singer" if you have time - it was very appropraitely eighties!! Have fun at the party - I hope I helped some!!

Brandy, I forgot about the folding and rolling of the jeans! I remember when the stretchy jeans were popular - we use to just push those up. Do you remember ever wearing those tight stretchy jeans with a skirt over them? What in the world were we thinking? hehe Bandanas had their moment of popularity too. We use to tie them around our thighs or around our ankles. As for make up, if it looks cheap and unnatural then you have the right look. What was with those friendship pins? I remember having them dangle from my shoelaces and I sort of remember what they look like, I know I made them ...anyway, they are a good accessory because they showed people how many friends you had. Perhaps someone on here can give Annie a quick lesson in making them.
