Subject: Goonies "Did You Notice..."

Written By: Kristen on 5/18/2000 at 1:32 p.m.

My e:mail didn't work to post this directly, but in the end of the Goonies when the cops find all the kids and the parents are running around and all of them are talking at once about what happened, Data mentions a giant octopus, which of course you never saw in the movie. That scene was cut, making this a rather large editing blunder. If your really obsessed, you can read the book that was published around the same time the movie came out, which includes the octopus and some other stuff that was either cut or just not included in the movie. Since I was 14 and in love with Sean Astin, I knew everything you possibly could about the Goonies, so I thought I'd share.

I guess I'd be one of those obsessed folks too. I read the book as well, plus I had any Goonies merchandise I could find, including a really cool magazine with the making of and all kinds of pictures and stuff. It talked about all kinds of movie stuff. Like when they saw the pirate ship, it was the first time any of the kids had seen it. The director wanted a real reaction so he closed off that set until the actual scene. For what it's worth, I was madly in love with Sean Astin too. My friend preferred Josh Brolin, but not me! Heck I saw the movie like 6 times in the theatre alone! :o)

I actually saw the Goonies on Disney years ago and they included the footage with the octopuss. The octopuss attacks them when they are in the water near the pirate ship. They end up throwing one of the sticks of dynomite in his mouth. It wasn't very good or real looking, I can see why they took it out. Before seeing this version I always wondered why data mentioned an octopuss. Another added scene was in the beginning after the kids tied brad up. They stop at the mini mart place on the road. Chunk has his head in the ice cream freezer, and troy pushes him down further into the freezer.
