Subject: Need a Minnesotan to help me with local 80s song!

Written By: Kristen on 5/18/2000 at 4:38 p.m.

I am next to positive the following band is from Minnesota. They used to play it on the Carleton College radio station, as my brother was a DJ. Now we both can't find the old tape and I am dying to find it again. No idea who sings it, can't find it on the web no-how, so I need a local who can help me out.

The song is called Cezanne and it goes a little like this :-)

Well I love cubism, it's my favorite style, when I see a cubist painting I just got to smile, cuz there's one painter and I'm his biggest fan, he's the father of cubism and his name's Cezanne, Cezaaaaannnnnnnnne, Cezanne, Cezaaaaannne, the father of cubism.

Well Paul Cezanne's father wanted him to be un legal, but Paul just looked at him and he said no way pal, I wanna be a painter, and I know I can, now his ouvre's in the L'ouvre he's Paul Cezanne, Cezannnnnnnnne, Cezanne, Cezaaaaannne, the father of cubism.

There are two other verses: One is about Paul painting flowers on a vase, he had to solve the problem of 2 dimensional space. And the other is about his aunt being in a coma, so they something something something and they took her to Pamona, something something something she sat up and started screaming something about wanting so see Paul Cezanne, or that was Paul Cezanne, I don't know. :-)

I will marry anybody out there who can give me the band name for this...kay, not really, but I would be forever grateful :-)

This is from the early 90's. I don't know if this is the correct version (right song not sure about the group). There is a "Paul Cezanne" by Five Chinese Brothers. Listen to a clip at the link.

After reading a little more it looks like this may be it.

Album Notes:Five Chinese Brothers: Tom Meltzer (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Kevin Trainor (guitar, background vocals, ocarina), Neil Thomas (piano, organ, accordion, background vocals), Paul Foglino (bass, banjo), Charlie Shaw (drums, percussion). Recorded at New Breed Studios and Mick Hanson Studio, New York in December 1992 and July 1993. (All) songs written by Paul Foglino or Tim Meltzer.
