Subject: Looking for collection. . .

Written By: Don Hertz on 11/27/98 at 12:50 a.m.

Hello,

My wife want an 80's collection for X-mas. She saw one at a friends house she liked alot and had jelly beans or marbles printed on the CD's. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if this was the Rolling Stone collection? Time Life? She said it cost around $120. She saw it advertised on TV once too. Feel free to e-mail me directly or repost to this board. Thanks!

I have the cd with the jellybeans on the front - it's called "Back to the '80s" and has 20 songs. I got it through Razor & Tie music (their website is www.razorandtie.com). I ordered it a few years ago. It was only like $15, not $120, so maybe it's part of a collection??? I got another great cd from Razor & Tie called "Awesome '80s", it's a 2 disc set with 40 songs!! Again, it was only like $15-20. Good Luck!!

Hi Don,

A friend of mine has that 2 cd set, with the jelly beans on it. It's from Razor and Tie, and I think it's called "Awesome 80s". It's only $27 (a $120 value as they advertise), check out http://www.razorandtie.com/catalog/tvrel.html

Looks like they don't have the jellybean cover anymore, but they're probably the same cd's. :)

Yes, this is the Awesome 80s collection, on TV they were bundling it with Totally 80s and Forever 80s, and maybe one other one. In my opinion, they're OK sets, but there are several better collections available in your local record stores... check out the reviews I have online of about 100 or so different compilations, I recommend the "Sedated in the 80s" and Rhino New Wave "Just Can't Get Enough" sets, the entire 15 CD Rhino set can usually be found at about $8 a piece or about $120 and trust me, 15 CDs are better than 6 or 8.... and I'm sure buying just half the set is enough to satisfy most people (though not me, but I think I'm obsessive compulsive about CDs sometimes) Anyways, here's the link Index to compilations
