Subject: Rick Springfield

Written By: RockandRollFan on 04/27/04 at 12:02 pm

I recently saw him in concert...his new songs are great!  My favorite one from his classic stuff though, is "Don't Talk To Strangers" followed closely by an obscure one from 1976 called "Jessica"

My vote was for "Don't Talk to Stangers", but it was a hard choice.  Rick is going to be in concert near me on April 28, unfortunately, I can't go  :(

I still have never been able to see him live.

Yes I voted for that one too, Rubixgirl. There are a few close seconds but that one steals it.

'Everybody's talking to computers, they're all dancing to a drum machine . . .'

If that isn't a premonition, I don't know what is.  :D

I know how you feel....I was supposed to see him at Red Rocks (Denver) back in August of 1984...but my girlfriend and I split up and she took another guy :P  Seeing him was really a treat....I wish you could go :'(

I really like his new stuff, too.  I saw him a couple of years ago in Vegas doing the "EFX" show.  He's still got it!  (and has aged VERY well, I might add.  :))

And I picked "Affair of the Heart".  Tough decision, but that's always been one of my favorites.

Only thing I like about Rick is that I'd like to punch him. Guess it's not his fault but he looked like my little sister's x-boy friend who was a punk.  I do like Don't talk to strangers, but when I hear Jesse's girl, I turn into Dr. Jekyll >:(

Probably because at least around here Jessies Girl is constantly overplayed to this day.  I never hear any of his other songs on the radio.  Also my fav is Dont Talk To Strangers.

Seeing that the only single of his I own is his single "Bruce", then I have to go with that. Does anyone else remember this gem? He wrote it out of frustration from people getting him mixed up with Bruce Springsteen. Here are the lyrics:

Doctor, doctor you gotta help me yeah
You gotta make it right for me
It seems this other man's name has been following me around
And it just won't let me be
You see i got this name and he's got this name too know
Well they're kinda close only a blind crazy fool
Would think i was him it's like saying green is blue
But let me tell you brother it started being a bother
When he made the cover of time magazine

I was at this party in the wild-hilled hills
Just the other night
Her name was shelly i introduced myself
She just smiled and said "all right"
Well we got talkin' and drinkin' wine
And she said she liked my music thought it was fine
She said, "let's make love, your place or mine"
And in the middle of the passion i was on the borderline
When she called out a name but it wasn't mine

She called me bruce, bruce
I can hear her calling bruce, bruce
I can hear her calling bruce, bruce
I can hear her
My name is rick i'm gonna stick it to ya babe

And there's this kid walking carrying a guitar
You know i told him that i played
He asked me my name you know i told him
I said it plain as clear as day
Well he seemed really, clearly, sincerely impressed
And as he pulled a piece paper for me to sign from his vest
He said, "i thought born to run was one of your best"
Awww wait a minute man, who do you think i am?
He answered, "mr. springsteen, your a famous man."

He called me bruce, bruce
I can hear him calling bruce, bruce
He called me bruce, bruce
I can hear him
My name is richard gonna hit it to you babe

You know my mama called me long distance yesterday
And as she got off the phone i swear i heard her say

Bye bye bruce, bruce
I can hear her calling bruce, bruce
She called me bruce, bruce
I can hear her
My name is ricky gonna stick it to you babe

I love Rick Springfield. He's one of my favorites, but all of my favorites he does...I didn't really see anyone list them.

My favorites are:

Souls
I Get Excited
Don't Walk Away

I love just about every song he has ever done.
I use to love watching him on General Hospital in the 80's, he was so good looking. I always wanted the movie "Hard to Hold" to be good...I never liked the girl they paired him with, and the story line was really bad.
He was in an episode of The Incredible Hulk where he played a cop, and he was a black belt in karate ...he looked great in that episode.
