Married With Children

It is compared to "The Osbournes".  :)

BTW, I selected other: "Married...with Children"...if not...

The only "wholesome" sitcom I can watch is "Who's The Boss?"

Gotta be "Family Ties" for me.  In spite of it's mushy theme song, yuppie attitude, and haven't-we-all-learned-something cornball endings, the writing and acting was terrific.  I still enjoy the reruns.  As you can tell, I'm not much for the "feel good" '80s family sit-coms.  I especially resented Cosby for his condescension and doctrinaire preachiness.  "Roseanne" was one of my favorites.  It tried to show a real family with real problems, you know, stuff that didn't get solved in 23 minutes.  "Married With Children" I loved for its over-the-top vulgarity.  I always thought the British would appreciate it more, as they don't require sympathetic characters.

Facts of Life

Thank you... it started in the 70's but came into its own by the 80s this is my choice too..

& what about Roseanne it started in '88
was it excluded because they had an unusual approach to life?  I mean the values are all there...
Stand up for yourself and fight for what you believe in
Family first no matter what
Love and Acceptance

If you think about it... Rosie took in her daughter's beau because he lived in an abusive household
The kids often fought but defended each other and helped each other out when needed.
The kids learned lessons about drinking, lying and skipping school
The family accepted people's alternative lifestyles.
Although Rosie & Dan didn't alway like their parents they accepted them and took them in when necessary
When "Becky" returned home the family took her and Mark in- they even offered to help her pay for college
There was discipline and more heart to heart talks than you remember...
This was a great show and better still because it did all this and wasn't Sappy about it.

I picked other for 'Valerie' because it was IMO the best family sitcom of it's time because it dealt with so many issues that you didn't see in other family sitcoms during the 80s ...

♦ The father was an airline pilot, so most of the time, Valerie struggled to raise their 3 kids on her own
♦ The eventual death of the Valerie character and how the Hogan's struggled with the loss of a loved one
♦ When David's best friend Rich died from AIDS

The funeral episode for Rich when David gave the eulogy really had me in tears.  When a sitcom can make me laugh, smile, and even get me so into the plot that I shed a happy or sad tear, then it's A-OK in my book

I forgot about Valerie's/The Hogan Family  thanks for the mental nudge

Other : Punky Brewster

Though reading through that list, they're all pretty much the same on a scale of wholesomeness. I loved them all... bar Full House.  ;D

I actually wrote a paper about The Cosby Show.  I really enjoyed it because I identified the most with Theo when the show first began. All of the shows in the 80s were great. Remember The Cosby Show, Family Ties and then Cheers ??? I digress. Married with Children would be considered very tame by todays' standards..too tame.

The shows in the 80s were innocent. For instance in the current times, Kelly Bundy would probably say: "I just had sex with 12 guys !!!" rather than the witty lines Bud would say to her to imply that she's been around. Not to go off topic, but I'd heard raves about 21/2 men. So I watched it and to me its not funny at all. Some things are better left to the imagination.

I remember that line-up on Thursday nights, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, and Cheers.  I didn't like Cheers though.  I liked The Cosby show  because I could identify with Rudy at the time, even though I'm two years older than her.  I was the youngest in the family, that's why.

Nicole, believe it or not you look like Rudy and Im sure people have told you that so I can imagine what you looked like then. Im the youngest too and what I loved most about the Cosby Show is that they reminded me of my own family , people have often commented that my parents remind them of the Huxtables.

I enjoyed A Different World but never as much as The Cosby Show. Cheers became a huge favorite of mine when it was in reruns.

under other peoples names it motr karamel.  once you have 100 posts you can give other members karma.  We usually do this when they say something we like, help us out or if they are having a bad day.... but you can't give the same person karma more than one time in a 24hr periord, I don't think you can do anything with the karma but I am always looking for praise so I watch mine closed than others do (I'm needy  :D ) LOL
