Subject: Favorite '80's Movie Soundtrack

My choice: "Pretty In Pink"  8)

Picking one is a tough choice.  I'd have to take the whole lot of them and make one  super-duper Best of '80s Soundtracks CD!
8)

I noticed Repo Man wasn't on the poll.  That's definitely one of the best.  Other good ones are Salvation, Something Wild, The Last American Virgin, and Modern Girls.

There are some goldies on the 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack, especially Bryan Ferry's Slave to Love, always been a special song to me.  It's not about S/M, BTW.  It's also got Eurythmics The City Never Sleeps, as well as tracks by John Taylor, Stewart Copland, Corey Heart, and Devo's cover of "Bread & Butter," which is fun in an obnoxious sorta way.

I always liked these from the '80s  ( :D )

Diva (1982)
Cinema Paradiso (1989)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983)

And these had one or two good songs ( :) )

Once upon a Time in America (1984)
National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)

I chose Pretty In Pink for the Smiths and Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark factor. But it has no Depeche Mode, damn it! :) For that, I'd pick the Say Anything... soundtrack, because not only does it have Depeche Mode ("Stripped"), it has one of my favourite Peter Gabriel songs on it ("In Your Eyes"). ;D

Absolutely Vile

The Lost Boys soundtrack is pretty cool.  Lots of good songs.  I also loved Footloose, Dirty Dancing and Purple Rain.  The Purple One was/is cool.

I chose "Back To The Future" simply for the Lindsey Buckingham song "Time Bomb Town"...AND there was another 1985 movie based in the 50's called "Mischief" that had a great soundtrack as well ;)

I chose St Elmo's Fire. John Parr's 'Man in motion' is such a classic song! I think my second choice is the Beetlejuice soundtrack, complete with the two Harry Belafonte singles (Jump in line (Shake, shake, shake senora) and The Banana Boat Song (Day-O)).

Hey, how could this guy leave out "Footloose"? Was he afraid such a killer soundtrack would sweep the voting?
BTW RNR, I also chose BTTF(but with my name, can you blame me?), for the 2 Huey Lewis songs, "Back In Time" & "The Power Of Love". Also, "Nat'l Lampoon's Vacation" had a good soundtrack, including your man Lindsey's classic "Holiday Road". Just thought you'd be interested!

Hmm, I guess the Breakfast Club right now.  What disappoints me is that they never put together a Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack, because IMO this movie had THE BEST music.

You forgot the Trick Or Treat Soundtrack. The songs are obscure, unknown to most & not popular by a band virtually unknown to most called Fastway. Anyone who was into hardrock or heavy metal back then should know the songs & the band though & it had it's target audience. All the songs were done by one band & as a result it's definitly the most consistant listenable & rockin soundtrack & the only soundtrack i own. I have it on vinyl & CD.
