Subject: Wham!

Written By: Lanie on 05/05/04 at 2:07 am

I chose "Careless Whisper". :)

"Careless Whisper" was also my favorite, it was the least cheesy Wham! song and video.  Very mature, very classy.  But then again "Careless Whisper" was a George Michael solo, so I don't know if it counts without Andrew what's his face.  My favorite with the both of them is "Everything She Wants".

I like 'Wake me up before you go go'. It's catchy and danceable to. I second it with the lovely seasonal 'Last Christmas' followed by 'Edge of heaven'.

On a pedantic note, "Careless Whisper" was George Michael solo, not Wham!.

Yep, here too maddog, but I understand from previous posts on this board it was marketed in the US as Wham!

As I thought Wham!'s music was up-chuck material, I too have voted for ""Careless Whisper""  :)

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

Freedom

No it's just called "Freedom".

Hey, I'M THE REAL "..."! I could have told Tanya that Wham as a group had a song simply titled "Freedom" (although George does say "I don't want your freedom" in the chorus); which is a completely different song than George's early 90s hit. The latter is often referred to as "Freedom '90" so it can be distinguished from the song he had as a member of Wham.

Lynn (who originally posted under my name) corrected you when she told you what the name of a song was. You said it was "I don't want your freedom" and then she corrected you, saying it was just called "Freedom." I think she was apologizing for correcting you.

Wham!'s Fantastic album is my favourite album of the 80's, so therefore, I vote for their 1983 hit "Club Fantastic Megamix".  It was their 5th hit in the UK, and was a collection of tracks from the Fantastic album all rolled into one :)

I haven't read through the entiirity of the thread but 'Careless Whisper' is a George Michael solo song. He did, however, relsease it whilst Wham were still together which is what confuses some people! Anyway...I'll shut up now!

"Everything She Wants" is probably my favorite.

"Carless Whisper" is their best, it's their most mature song, but that was a George Michael solo.

I don't think their songs have aged very well, there is a certain cheesiness to a lot of it looking back on it.

As a single release in the UK, it was George's first solo hit.  In North America, it was credited as "Wham! featuring George Michael"

Interesting that 'Wake Me Up' has polled very little from us 80's fanatics, yet this is always the standard Wham! track you hear played on local radio stations or retro bars.....

I've always felt they did better tracks than 'Wake Me Up' too, and I voted for 'Freedom'.

It's a very catchy and infectious song, and it probably works best when played in a retro bar with a lot of people around to sing along to it.
