What are your favourite lyrics? I like the lyrics to:
Viennaby Ultravox
Miracle Of Love by Eurythmics
Too Much Love Will Kill You by Queen
Bat Outta Hell by Meat Loaf
Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac

They can be from the 80s, 90s or 70s if you like. What are yours?

One of my favourite lyrics is from the song "One Line" by PJ Harvey on her 2000 album "Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea".

And I draw a line
To your heart today
To your heart from mine
One line to keep us safe

Watch the stars now moving
Across the sky
Keep this feeling
Safe tonight

Just about anything by Elvis Costello, Squeeze (80's) or BNR (current).  All of them have a turn of phrase that you don't hear often on pop music.

My mum likes Squeeze. She went to see them in concert in the 80s.

Squeeze were good. 'Cool for cats' springs to mind;

'I give a little muscle
And I spend a little cash
But all I get is bitter and a nasty little rash
And by the time I'm sober
I've forgotten what I've had
And ev'rybody tells me that it's cool to be a cat
Cool for cats'

The best lyrics for me is 'Sit down' by James (1991)

'Now I've swung back down again
It's worse than it was before
If I hadn't seen such riches
I could live with being poor'

"I Feel Like Buddy Holly" by Alvin Stardust.  The lyrics in this song are wonderful ...

now I know how Paul McCartney felt
when he got up to say
I wish it was yesterday

--

now I know what Paul Simon meant
by the words he found
I wish i was homeward bound"
