I chose "Other" and went with IMO, the song that was MUCH better than the original....Phil Collins' "You Can't Hurry Love" from 1982 ;)

Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Cum on Feel the Noize - Quiet Riot
More Love - Kim Carnes
Money (That's What I Want) - The Flying Lizards
A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins

I think there are a couple of discrepancies here:

- Is "No New Tale To Tell" by Love And Rockets a cover? Are you sure you're not getting it mixed up with "Ball Of Confusion?" THAT was a cover done by Love And Rockets. I think The Temptations did it originally.

- "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" is by The Smiths originally! It is not a cover! The Dream Academy did cover it roughly around the same time, and it was in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off in instrumental form, and is possibly on the soundtrack as well with lyrics intact.

There might be a few others I'm not sure of...

My bad.  :-[  I knew  Dream Academy covered the Smiths song (It's on a compilation CD titled "Lost '80's" or something like that...)  & I sometimes get songs (I haven't heard in a while)  mixed up.

I coorected it & checked the All Music guide for errors.

A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins

I'm NOT tryin" to be an *ss zcrito, but for as much as  Phil Collins remake of "You Can't Hurry love Was my Favorite...his rendition of the Mindbenders classic was a flop....just my opinion.....though i respect yours as well ;)

It's the opposite with me and those two songs. Hey, I like Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders' version too. I just think the PC version was a good re-make - I likes it.  :)

Speaking of re-makes, I read somewhere the music from "A Groovy King of Love" is based on...
"Clementi's Sonatina op 36 no 5, 3rd movement (the Rondo)" ???

;) ;D

Soft Cell:Tainted Love.
Ed Cobb wrote it, Gloria Jones performed it first, but SOFT CELL's version became the definitive one.

I'm not a Bangles fan so much, but I really loved their cover of Hazy Shade of Winter (orig. Simon & Garfunkel).  That was the only thing I liked about the movie "Less than Zero."

The ones I chose were:

Bangles-Hazy Shade of Winter
Van Halen-You Really Got Me
Los Lobos-La Bamba
Naked Eyes-Always Something There To Remind Me

I'll have to admit it was hard to only pick 4 though  ;)

Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts would have been #5

Must go with the Clash's "I Fought The Law" and RHCP's "Higher Ground" runs a very close second.
