If board games count, I'd like to nominate Trivial Pursuit, but if we're only talking toys, I think the most popular was definitely the one voted by AOL subscribers as "The Fad Of The Century", Rubik's Cube!
Also, I think accessories boys could buy for their Hot Wheels/Micro Machinescars(Garages, carwashes) boomed in the early 80's, then there was the tape player toys like Casey & Teddy Ruxpin, which soon diversified with the talking Big Bird & Mickey Mouse. Plus, there were all the Masters Of The Universe & G.I. Joe action figures. Would the Nintendo Game Boy count? That was first released really late in the decade (88-89). I hope this helps!

I agree the Rubix Cube is a standout toy of the 80's. If you're doing research, try watching I Love the 80's (and Strikes Back).

Though not really a toy... Pacman the video game. I spent hours a day playing that at the "Great American Hero" in Dallas TX ;)

Wouldn't be the 80's without Cabbage Patch Kids - people would fight over those in stores!
There was also Teddy Ruxpin - that was a stuffed teddy bear that had a cassette player in his belly and you'd put the tape in, he'd tell you a story.

:D :DMy Child dolls--and i have four in very good condition--better shape than what some people are trying to get like 40 dollars or more for now!Also barbie rocker dolls,cabbage patch kids,babies and preemies,My Friend dolls--I know I'll think of more later.Cheers!

Dino-riders: I had the triceratops with hammerhead rider.
Monster in my pocket: I had a friend who had all of them, including the screwed up improperly colored ones.
