Subject: 80's TV Shows You'd Like To See On DVD?

Written By: TheBreakfastClub on 07/21/04 at 6:48 pm

it seems like every single tv show is on dvd or will soon be on dvd. I admit, I own a few. Will and Grace 1 and 2, Punky Brewster Season 1, Sex And The City 1 and 2, Who's The Boss? Season 1, Dawson's Creek 1-3, Friends 1-2.  What 80's shows would you love to see on dvd?

My Picks:

Growing Pains
The Golden Girls
Designing Women
Roseanne
Diff'rent Strokes
The Facts Of Life

Season 1 of Quantum Leap came out recently.

I think that Season's 1 and 2 of Three's Company are out. (maybe more, but I'm not quite sure)

Hey NbC, I know "Sliders" isn't 80's, but you're right, it would be great to have it on DVD. However "Quantum Leap" does have its first season available, and we might even see the second year out before the year's over. Check your local "Best Buy", "Circuit City", or "FYE" for prices. Too bad we can't leap back to the80's and buy it at the prices back then, but then, DVD's hadn't been invented yet (Oh, boy). Good Luck!

As for me, I keep hoping for DVD releases of "Miami Vice" & "MacGyver".

I don't think anyone remembers this series, but Rags to Riches would be nice to see again. It was about female orphans and a rich dude in the sixties who took them in. They would sing popular songs of that day each week.

I read in Entertainment Weekly that V is on DVD. Good show!

I remember the show and it was one of my ALLTIME favorite shows even though it was cheezy. But you are right not too many people remember the show. I recently went onto ebay and purchased the entire collection with all the episodes so email me and chat and hopefully I can get a copy to you!

If they ever put old soaps on video/dvd, my pick would be "Santa Barbara" - I wish they'd air repeats of that one on Soap Net as well, like they do with "Another World".

There's plenty of American stuff we need released on DVD in the UK.... but most of all I want Hooperman.... why is there no John Ritter stuff out to buy?

For all the Brits.... did anyone watch Prospects in the mid 1980s? It was an hour long comedy/drama series about two wideboy London lads who were always scheming ways to make money, with typically unfortunate results... It was on Channel 4 for around a dozen episodes.... i've got some old videos of the show transferred onto DVD but the quality isn't the best..... This needs to be officially released on DVD!!!!

I have an old Nickelodeon show memory that still haunts me: perhaps someone can help me?

It was a show that involved kids in an underground maze. They were always hunting for an object that could only be seen in a a special mirror. They time traveled within the maze each time they found it. I remember a French revolution episode. There was a evil woman with magic powers who was a different character in each episode.

There was also a story...perhaps a separate show entirely that involved the Stonehenge circle of a town. The stones were people running from some curse or something.

The third image that haunts me is of an alien that was like a human sized worm that "digested" people. It seems that in my memory these 3 shows were all the same show...but were divided into different mini-series-like episodes that were independant of each other.

This was back in the "Tomorrow People" days of nickelodeon.

"Not Necessarily the News"

"The Arsenio Hall Show" - that was my favorite late night talk show as a teen.

My only problem with seeing shows that I haven't seen in a while is that I sometimes don't find them as good now as I did then. I picked up HBO's "The Hitchhiker" DVDs and it's nice to see the episodes again, but they're not as good as I remembered them. Dare I pick up "21 Jump Street"?

I doubt it's on PAL, you'll have to check your respective Amazon sites. Popular titles like the A-Team are on PAL too though.

Your best bet is to invest in a multi-regional dvd player - most new ones are now multi region anyway and it's a worthwhile investment.

Or a few several semi decent DVDs like the "MTV20" set and the Unplugged DVD.

How about:  :D

"Best of Club MTV" 5 volumes (BTW, I don't have VH1 Classic)
"Best of Headbangers Ball"  5 volumes (interviews, live performances,  & video clips)
"Best of Yo! MTV Raps"  5 volumes (interviews, live performances,  & video clips)
"Best of 120 Minutes" 5 volumes (interviews, live performances, & video clips)
"Unplugged" (entire series, sold seperately)
"Music Video Awards: Best Moments & Performances" 3 Volumes  (From the '80's, and includes some videos as "bonuses", same with '90's)

I doubt it's on PAL, you'll have to check your respective Amazon sites. Popular titles like the A-Team are on PAL too though.

Your best bet is to invest in a multi-regional dvd player - most new ones are now multi region anyway and it's a worthwhile investment.

My machine can run NTSC, but it's not legal to sell NTSC - in shops, of cause - in Denmark - don't ask me why - and I haven't got a credit card, so I can't buy anything online.
