Subject: Favorite TV Spinoffs of the 80's

Written By: eightiesfan on 10/07/04 at 8:32 am

I liked most of the shows on this list, but for me, it would have to "Facts of Life", hands down!

Here's a bit of usesless trivia: Long before Frasier, there was another Cheers spinoff that lasted only a handful of episodes in 1987 - it was called The Tortellis and centered around Carla's ex and his young wife (played by Mrs Casey Kasem) living in Vegas; I actually remember watching the show and thought it was pretty good.

Different Strokes - Mrs Garrett started out as the housekeeper on that show before she worked at Eastland first as the housemother and then the school dietician.

I picked The Jeffersons. I also pick "Maude" and "Good Times", which weren't on your list.

Another good show that I just thought of is Benson, which was a spin-off of Soap.

I'm surprised you don't have "Family Matters" on here. It started in '88 or '89 as a spinoff of "Perfect Strangers" Harriet Winslow was the Chronicle building's elevator operator and Carl occasionally gave Larry exclusive crime stories, but then they got thier own series away from downtown Chicago. Maybe Steve Urkel has a time machine we could use to go back and explain why the third Winslow child disappeared(Little Richie was cooler, anyway)! Any thoughts?

Your Pal,
Doc

I loved all of those shows. Knots Landing was actually created before Dallas, however, Dallas was aired first. So is Knots landing really a spinoff? :-\\

"You take the good, you take the bad, you take them all and there you have the FACTS OF LIFE"!!!

Jeffersons is a little too 70's to have gotten my vote.
