"A Perfect Way" is a good song.

I always wanted to know the lyrics.

A Perfect Way

I took a backseat a backhander I took her back to her room
I better get back to the basics for you
You gotta conscience compassion you got away with the word
You gotta heart full of complacency too
I don't have a purpose omission I'm empty by definition
I got a lack girl that you'd love to be
You wanna diva a deduction you wanna do what they do
Wanna do damage that you can undo
Apart from everyone away from your love
A part of me belongs apart from all the hurt above
I got a perfect way to make a new proposition
I got a perfect way to make a justification
I got a perfect way to make a certain a maybe
I got a perfect way to make the girls go crazy
I took a day job amendment I took a liking to you
I took a page out of my rulebook for you
You wanna message a confession you wanna martyr me too
You wanna margin of error for two
Maybe tomorrow the next letter or when the weather gets better
I've got to wait here for your moon to turn blue
I made an offer an exception I made a sense out of you
You took a good look at your book but I knew
In times of tenderness in terms baby so true
Until such time as I can understand all the things you do
Want to forgive you for all the things that you do
Wanna forget how to remember with you
Maybe tomorrow the next letter or when the weather gets better
I've got to wait here for your moon to turn blue
This is a perfect way to make a new proposition
This is a perfect way to make a justification
This is a perfect way to make a certain a maybe
This is a perfect way to make the girls go crazy

I think it's safe to say that anybody that had Mtv back in the mid-80s knows them. Perfect Way was played in very heavy rotation. Of course, I didn't mind since Green was soooooo dreamy in that vid! ;)

Loved 'em!  Cupid and Psyche 85 came out during my senior year of high school.  I think I wore out a few copies of the cassette, in fact.  I loved the song "Hypnotize".

Another loved 'em too!  I loved their catchy lyrics. That band had great hair too!

Wonder whatever happened to them?  They don't make bands like that anymore.

As soon as I get this band thing going I want to have as good a writing style as Green did! :)

Certainly was...about their best, IMO - 'Absolute' wasn't bad, either...

My favourite was always Word Girl, though I have heard it described as musical white chocolate!  I also like Wood Beez (pray like aretha franklin)

I'm not sure when they first came out, but 1984/1985 were their years.

They were one of my favourite bands.  They have released five albums, which is amazing since the first one came out I think in 1982 or maybe even 1979 and the last one in the late 90's.  It's a little bit of a case of a Wham or Tears for Fears in that the lead singer, Green Gartside, is pretty much the only constant over that period.  Madness did a cover of one of their songs, "The Sweetest Girl", and the band Wet, Wet, Wet named themselves after a lyric in a Scritti Song.

My favourite Scritti song is "A little knowledge", fantastic stuff.  I remember reading that Green liked to use really cliched 'pop language' when writing lyrics to pay homage to the Pop music genre, so you hear the word 'Baby' in almost every song on Cupid and Psyche.

Heard of 'em?  Hell, I'm OBSESSED with 'em!  Although, my collection of Scritti LPs has alienated me from my generation somewhat, I'm a Woodbee and I'm proud of it!!  B.E.E.Z.!!  "Lover to Fall" and "Overnite" (both from their Cupid and Psyche '85 and Provision LPs respectively) are undoubtedly their greatest works from the 80s (their BEST song didn't hit the market until 1991 - "Take Me in Your Arms and Love Me").  As a result of being a Scritti fan, certain conversations become limited - my best mate is a massive fan of most rock and metal bands (most notably Cradle of Filth/RHCP/Guns N' Roses), and is often able to remark on going to Mosh Pits etc... and often wears T-Shirts with band names and logos emblazoned on the front.  I've had to explain to him many times that I can't get any T-Shirts with my favourite act emblazoned on the front, as SP never merchandised (to my knowledge) and can never go to any tours, as a) They're temporarily defunct and b) Never really gigged in the first place.  I hope I'm not alone in the world... It'd be nice to be the biggest Scritti Politti fan ever, though  :)

absolutey awsome. I actually never thought there'd be another as enthusiastic about SP. how radical :D!

We're a rare breed...  :)

And thus, my top ten Scritti songs...
1. Take Me In Your Arms and Love Me (1991)
Despite having an irritating reggae-rap interlude sandwiched in the middle, this is undoubtedly THE best track Scritti have come out with... I'd also regard it as one of the best cover versions of a record ever, as well (the original having been recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips).  If you haven't heard it, grab a vinyl copy over eBay before they all disintegrate...

2. Overnite (1988)
The best ballad that the Politti have come out with - in my opinion outshining Oh Patti.  Deserved to be released, whether a hit or not.  Sadly, neither.

3. Lover to Fall (1985)
Insanely catchy and VERY 80s - best track on C&P '85.  The LP's worth getting for this track alone.

4. All That We Are (1988)
See Overnite, but add "2nd" in front of "best ballad".

5. Hypnotize (1985)
Voted the greatest Scritti track ever on several fansites (yes, they exist!) including a 200-strong Yahoo group.  Deserves recognition, not quite the title, but sadly not as big a hit as it should've been.

6. Best Thing Ever (1988)
This was the song that got me into SP after hearing it on the Who's That Girl? soundtrack.  So therefore I owe it a lot..

7. A Little Knowledge (1984)
I seriously didn't think I'd like this until one day last week I listened past the intro... and was pleasantly rewarded.

8. Sugar and Spice (1988)
Overtly nice and poppy, aren't most Scritti songs, but this opitimises them quite well.

9. Don't Work That Hard (1985)
I challenge anyone, having heard this, not to have the lyric "Drowning in my teardrops, teardrops" going through their head for days afterwards.  It can't be done!

10. Absolute
This song is so 80s I could cry tears of joy.  Truly unique.

I hate to say that I never really got into Scritti Politti all that much. However, it's great to see someone else as obsessed with a band as I am. (Though it's not SP with me. It's...someone else...) ;)

Admittedly, Scritti isn't for everyone, yet I challenge people to try 'em out.  And it's perfectly fine to have an obsession... within reason, of course.

Well, we do have a couple of Scritti LP's... Maybe I'll give them a proper listen one day. ;D

And I think our obsessions are perfectly healthy!! ;)
