Subject: Inspector Gadget

Written By: JamieMcBain on 12/12/04 at 6:11 am

Has anyone here heard of or seen Inspector Gadget? It's one of my favorite cartoons, the less said about the "other" Inspector Gadget cartoons, the better!  ::)

Yup. I watched it in syndication and when it was on Nickelodeon after that.

The movie was ok, but not great, the sequel  was kind of lame.

The original cartoon was a lot better! I hate when they twist older cartoons around to meet the needs of younger generations.

Gadget and the Gadgetinis and Gadget Boy and Heather are spin offs of the show, and they both suck, the original is better!  >:(

I always used to wonder how Penny, Gadget's niece, got that really cool computer book... Complete with super thin,
button-infused pages!!

And I always laughed when Gadget read the message from the cheif (with his eyes going back and forth like a typewriter): ""This message will now self-destruct." because you always knew he was going to accidentally blow the cheif up. ^_^

And the parts with Gadget trying to capture Brain, the dog, because he thought Brain was a M.A.D. agent... Priceless.

"Next time, Gadget... Next time!!"

Did it drive anyone else crazy as a kid not to be able to ever see what Dr. Claw looked like?  Man that drove me nuts!  I hoped each show that we'd get to see him in the end! ;D

I think it's best not knowing what Dr. Claw looks like, it makes him more menacing!  ;D

I wanted to know what Dr. Claw looked like, but it's best to leave as is. Oh, Cree Summer ("Freddy" from "A Different World" did Penny's voice as well as Elmira's from Tiny Toon Adventures).

It's obvious... DiC made both Inspector Gadget and Sonic the Hedgehog animated series, so, Dr. Claw is really *GASP!* Dr. Ivo Robotnik!  :o

If he DID have a shoe phone he stole it from agent 86 from Get Smart!

I think Howard is getting confused. The shoe phone was from Get Smart which (incidentally) stars Don Adams the voice of Inspector Gadget. Gadget pulls a wire out of his finger if I remember correctly and speaks into his thumb (brilliant!)

As for the films and the spin-offs, they are awful (I fell asleep through the first one). They lack the sense of irony the original cartoon had - and what is the point in cliche-ing the whole thing by adding a spider woman as his enemy in Gadget boy and Heather (yawn!)

I refuse to believe that is what Dr Claw looked like, Jamie (even though it is from an official merchandising brand I am sure). I believe Dr Claw was always meant to be kept as a mystery (good job too even though I so desperately wanted to see his face as well).

I remember when I was a stupid child and I tried to draw the buttons in an excercise book and pretend to be Penny.  ::)

I watched Inspector Gadget on a regular basis. What about Penny, his neice (I believe she was his neice  :-\\ )? I usually watched that and Heathcliff the cat, and Yogi Bear and Boo Boo on Nick during the late afternoons. It seemed it came on after dark or just around twilight time.

PEnny was his niece yes :)

Here's a bit of trivia.  The voice of Penny was actress Cree Summer, whom you may remember as Freddie on the sitcom "A Different World" :)

No, it was very, very '80s. According to ImDb.com, it ran between 1983-1986.

They reran it a lot on Nick in the '90s. When you're a little kid, you never know the difference :)

Oh, I agree  ;) I mean, I probably remember it much more during the reruns rather that it's original airing, as I was between 1 and 4 during that time.

For instance I never knew "Hey Dude" was from 1989 and the very early '90s until recently.
