Hey, Sputnikcorp, just wondering if you'd classify SSS as punk? I was trying to decide which genre best described their music- 'Electro-punk' was the term I came up with, but people define punk so differently these days, just wondering if that term would be accurate?

Yo dang right, 'crombie! I heard someone describe bands such as Blink 182 & the UK's Busted as punk the other day, what a load of tosh! In my opinion, the main feature of punk was it's anti-establishmentism, something very much lacking in the modern 'wannabe punk' genre. Nowadays we just get manufactured boy bands, chosen for looks rather than talent, pushing PC 'lyrics' aimed at teenage girls- somehow, some people think this is punk. Over Sid's dead body! :D

well, there more new wave. tony james, the leader of SSS was a member of generation X so the punk ethos was there. then again, a lot of new wave bands started off as punk bands...since cyberpunk was an underground literary movement in the 80s, sputnik embraced the cyberpunk values of style over substance, extreme commercialism, computers and a love for anything japanese. so yeah, cyberpunk would be the term i would describe SSS.

Sex Pistols
Er...The Sex Pistols were long gone in the eighties.
For me, punk was much more a seventies thing than eighties. That's when it had it's heyday and was really really awesome. But it was around in one form or another in the eighties and if I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be Dead Kennedys.

Yeah...this is technically true, although the Pistols are considered part of UK punk spanning from 1976-1981 (The Great Rock n Roll Swindle was released in '81).

70's punk was slower and more "hard rock" than it was punk in my opinion. you get bands like Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, JFA in the mix with the speed and/or political and social commentary in the mix....that's punk rock to me.

We had one in Canada called "Teenage Head". They had a loyal following in the early 80's, as well as several mainstream hits. Don't think they ever made it out of Canada though
