Subject: Another "Awesomely Bad" VH1 List... #1 Hit Songs

Written By: woops on 12/30/04 at 12:42 pm

Another bad list...

"Top 40 Awesomely Bad #1 Songs"...

"Lost In Your Eyes" by Deborah Gibson was ranked at 31, higher than Puff Daddy, Nelson, & Rick Astley!!!

And more greats lke "Maneater" (Hall & Oates), "Wild Wild West" (Escape Club), "Unbelivable" (EMF), "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" (Yes), "More Than Words" (Extreme), "I Want To Know What Love Is" (Foreigner) ...and a couple "worst faves" that VH1 also added on their other "Awesomely Bad" lists...  ::)  :P  And a couple guilty pleasures...probably why some are on the list like Debbie Gibson & Paula Abdul.
Though I also agree on a couple like Color Me Badd, Hanson, & Vanilla Ice.  :P

Atleast I agreed on the entire "40 Awesomely Bad Songs of 2004"...  :D

I agree with you. This list was bad b/c they placed good songs with cheesy songs. I do agree with Debbie's Lost in Your Eyes (although it's much better than Electric Youth). Frankly, I liked "Foolish Beat" over Lost...

Kool & The Gang "Celebration"
Richard Marx "Right Here Waiting"
EMF "Unbelievable"
Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dream, Get Into My Car"
Genesis "Invisible Touch"
Rick Astley "Together Forever"
Yes "Owner Of A Lonely Heart"
Steve Miller Band "Abracadbra"
Paula Abdul "Opposites Attract"
Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch "Good Vibrations"
Extreme "More Than Words"
George Harrison "Got My Mind Set On You"
Foreigner "I WantTo Know What Love Is"
Tiffany "I Think We're Alone Now"
Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy"
Huey Lewis & The News "Stuck With You"
Ace Of Base "The Sign"
Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger"

I don't agree with these. I love to listen to a bit of Billy Ocean or Rick Astley (what's the thing with 'Eye of the tiger' being on the list?). Saying that, I am not blessed with the best musical taste.  ;D

Kool & The Gang "Celebration"
Richard Marx "Right Here Waiting"
EMF "Unbelievable"
Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dream, Get Into My Car"
Genesis "Invisible Touch"
Rick Astley "Together Forever"
Yes "Owner Of A Lonely Heart"
Steve Miller Band "Abracadbra"
Paula Abdul "Opposites Attract"
Peter Cetera "The Next Time I Fall"
Roxette "The Look"
Yes "Owner Of A Lonely Heart"
George Harrison "Got My Mind Set On You"
Foreigner "I Want To Know What Love Is"
Tiffany "I Think We're Alone Now"
Huey Lewis & The News "Stuck With You"
Ace Of Base "The Sign"
Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger"
Beach Boys "Kokomo"

None of these belong on that list. OK, in a few cases it's not their BEST song, and with others I have to say 'good song from a bad artist', but I wanna know where these people get off calling some of these songs "Awesomely Bad"? That's just mud-slinging.

Personally, I'd like to find the editor & writers of these lists, who seem to write them for the sake of being nasty, publicly call on them the mat and ask them, flat out,
When was the last time YOU had a hit song?
And since Blender magazine has never made the charts, I think that would effectively shut them up. Thanks for your time, and let's all resolve never to listen to these mean-spirited crtitics again.

Happy New Year!

Your Pal,
Doc

It's an odd list.

Here's three I don't think belong there

24. Yes "Owner Of A Lonely Heart"
19. Falco "Rock Me Amadeus"
9. Ace Of Base "The Sign"

Some of the others are by people who, well, to be honest have done better or who have other songs I like, such as Spice Girls, Foreigner, George Harrison, Beach Boys...

I think these lists are basically "songs we don't like but have videos for" lists.
:(

I think a lot of these songs are easy targets, Doc. That is why they get picked on by cheap critics.

I'm suprised that they didn't rank New Kids On The Block.  :P Since they're another pop group that people loved to hate.  And actors/singers like Don Johnson, Eddie Murphy, & Bruce Willis.

Not to mention that the only two songs from this decade are "Goodies" from Ciara & "It Wasn't Me" from Shaggy.

Though there's way too many songs from this decade to list...  :P

Including current "artists"  like Britney Spears, Destiny's Child, N'Sync, Christina Aquilera, J. Lo, Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, etc.  :P

And not to forget "The Thong Song" by Sisqo & "Who Let The Dogs Out" by Baha Men.

And I demand to know why Bros' "When Will I Be Famous?" and NKOTB's "The Right Stuff" are not even on the list! They should be way up the top!

I'm surprised that Lulian Lennon's "Much too late for goodbye"....Hey Julian, just because your father is John Lennon, it does not mean you have talent, too!

I can't stand that Ciara song, somebody tell her that even though her song is about a guy not being able to get her "goodies", she shouldn't get the message wrong by looking like she's dressed in a bathing suit with pants on and not wearing a bra. >:(

There's one song I would've included on that list - I'll Be Your Everything by Tommy Page  :P

The only reason that song ever became a hit is because New Kids on the Block sang backup vocals on it
