For me, it's a toss-up between Rush and Loverboy.  8)

I voted for Rush off your list, I was big into them and Max Webster in the early 80s(has anyone outside of Canada heard of Max Webster ?) The Tragically Hip needs mention, not thought of as an 80's band their album from 89 'Up To Here' is excellent.  :)

Of Course it´s Rush and another Rush, namely Mahogany Rush with Frank Marino coming second. Rush´s saga still continues. so I guess Saga comes then.

I like all the artists on your list, especially Rush and Loverboy. But I still had to go with other. My favorite Canadian band would have to be TRIUMPH. Loads of great songs and an incredible live show. TRIUMPH ruled the eighties in Canada!

Alright!! Another Kings and 'This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide' fan. And I know there are many others out there.
It's one of my favs from the '80s. It didn't get any airplay where I live when it was first released but finally did two years later.

Other '80s Canadian artists favorites...

Limelight - Rush
Working for the Weekend - Loverboy
Living Inside Myself - Gino Vannelli

I hope I didn't miss any good ones from Canada for that decade.

:)

There was another one-hit wonder Canadian group who put out a great song in the early 80's:

My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone) - Chillowack

From the list I chose Rush...also liked Aldo Nova,Prism and April Wine..

I pretty much like all the bands people have mentioned though..

The only two from the main list I've seen live are Loverboy and Honeymoon Suite..Both were very entertaining..

chilliwack had a handful of hits,so I wouldn't say they were a one hit wonder..."Watcha Gonna Do" and "I Believe" come to mind..

Parachute Club. I remember them. "Rise Up" comes to mind off that 1983 album. I may still have that cassette.
And Sarah McLachlan, I always thought of her as '90s only. Guess not.

And someone else also mentioned Chilliwack. I too, remember that "I Believe" song from 1982.

I actually remember her first(?) single from 1989, interestingly called "Vox." Great song. :)

Does anybody have any MP3s of Tu, the twin sisters from Toronto who put a couple of albums out in the late 80s?  All I've heard so far is some samples from this page: http://www.musicbymailcanada.com/Tu/index2.html

I'd never heard of this group in my life until I heard "Stay With Me" at the barbor shop last time I got a haircut and the song stuck in my head.  I succeeded in finding out who did it, but, alas, I haven't had any luck finding their albums or songs anywhere.

I voted for Rush out of nostalgia for the happy days of my youth, playing air guitar to "Xanadu" and "Temples Of Syrinx" at the local heavy metal club.

I don't know much about Barney Bentall, but I do remember his song 'Something to Live For' was a hit all across Canada :)
Last I heard, TPOH are working on a comeback album :)
