Subject: Worst Year of the 80s

Written By: Full_House_Fan on 02/11/05 at 10:38 pm

I pick 1982.  That year just plays out as creepy for me, I don't know why.

1986 - I witnessed the Challenger and a suicide on tv. Plus, there was some weird stuff going on in my city at the time.

Since I know somebody will bring it up, the reason I count 1990 is because although it's not truly eighties the culture definitely seemed to linger around despite so many people hating it by then and also some stuff from 1990 rivals the cheesiest stuff from 1980-89.

I didn't take it.  I robbed it off the net  ;D  But it's in San Francisco, where Full House takes place.  Probably the same houses they picture in the show.

Although I think the show itself, well most of it, was filmed in Southern Cali.

Thanks!
I was wondering if it was San Fran.  Great city.  I forgot Full House took place there.
Thanks again.

You're welcome.  I was, in fact born there (in Jan 1990), so perhaps that's why I like Full House so much. :)

1980... So & So...I can't stand most '70's fashion (worse than the '80's. IMHO) and disco  :P

I picked 1988. It was so boring... for me, anyway. I would've said 1989, but that was my high school graduation year. 8)

Considering I was under 5 for half of the 80s, I can't remember a thing.

1982 music was quite cheesy though...

Wasn't a boring year for me - it was the year of Expo in  Brisbane and also the year I fell pregnant and gave birth to my first child.

I chose 1985 because it was the year my eldest sister died :\'(

1989...because it was the last year of the 80's...so technically there was no bad or worst year

For personal reasons, 1984 (as that was the year my grandmother died...)

But as a whole (music-wise 'specially), 1986 gets it (and '87 wasn't that far behind...)

Would someone mind telling me why 1990 is included in this poll...?!!

I picked 1989 because I have alot of bad memories living in the projects when I was a todler and both my grandparents, my great-grandfather and my best friends mother died that year. Not a good year at all. :\'( :\'(

Plus I think it was boring, (although I barely remember it).  ::)

My second choiced would be 1985, (The year my parents were married) Ugh. can you say not meatn to be??

Well I've always felt 1990 was more 80s (albeit very weak eighties) than it is 90s.  I mean some 90s stuff like Mariah Carey emerged into popular conciousness by then but Hair Metal and synth pop was still capable of charting then (in fact even up to 1992) and the mindset didn't quite get to nineties yet.  Also from TV I've seen there's still a lot of big hair lingering around. It's kinda the last year of the 80s because it ties into 1989 the way 2000 ties into 1999.  Do you know what I'm saying Paul?

1991 was more 90s and 1992 and up were pure 1990s though in my opinion.

You must be trippin if you think nineteen NINETY was EIGHTIE'S. I've said it before and I'll say it again if I have to. Eighties, by definition, are the years that contain "eighty" when you say them. I know some of the pop culture of '89 carried over into '90, but that's typical of just about every year. Anyway, the simple fact remains that 1989 was the final year of the 80ies, and that's that. What I'm trying to say is, "80s" is NOT some symbolic term.

Furthermore, 1990 doesn't even have an 8 in the ten's place.

In conclusion, 1989 was the last year of the 80's. Any argument to the contrary is unfounded.

Heck, were you even around 15 years ago? If so, do you have memories of 1989 and 90? (I was around then, and I do have memories of that time period.)

I was born 15 years ago (in Jan 90).  I guess I should of been more clear. 1990 looks more 80s than it does like most of the 90s.
Stuff from then looks more modern than stuff even from early 1989, but it still isn't quite nineties in FEEL.  Of course it's nineties really, I mean all "1980s" or "1990s" or "2000s" means is date anyhoo.  I wasn't around then, but the stuff I've seen/heard recorded in some media looks very 1988 or 1989.  Moreso than it looks 1992 or 1993, although it is a bit of both.

So yes, you're right.  But you'd agree 1990 is more like the late 1988-1989 in terms of culture than it is like 1992-1994, right?  I see it as a late phase of the 80s the way I see 1998-2001 as a late phase of the 90s.  But you could really switch it the other way around and say 1988-1991 was the first phase of the 90s and 1998-2001 is the first phase of the 2000s.  And remember, I'm talking anything BUT date here.  Of course 1980s is Jan 1, 1980 to Dec 31, 1989.
