Subject: G.L.O.W. - Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling

Written By: george78 on 02/14/05 at 2:38 pm

I used to LOVE this show. It was on Saturday nights in the 80s. I believe it ran around '86-'89. This was a show to watch. The girls were hot and they did short skits in between matches. My favorite tag team was Hollywood and Vine!  ;D

WWF/WWE Divas Rock. Womens wrestling has always entertained me. I think Ivorys hilarious. I remember her in GLOW as Tina Ferrari. Speaking of GLow remember Matilda THe Hun
she did this skit/promo on GLow where she sings this song I EAT RAW MEAT or something.
She was crazy I'll never forget that lol

I was into the cheerleaders. Remember when one of them dislocated her arm and they would constantly replay when it happened? You could see the dislocation and all. They would update on her recouperation and everything. I also got a kick out of Hollywood and Vine. Little Fiji worked my nerves.

She always reminded me of Brigitte Neilson in Rocky IV (course, that's probably what they we're going for given the time frame.) She was hot. I also found Americana to be incredibly hot, especially since she looked like a girl I was interested in at my school. The fact that they fought against each other often made me quite happy. :)

I watched this darn thing also. Remember the voiceover announcer, "Maniac Mike Morgan"? Sometimes it seemed like this guy didn't quite get the right information on the wrestlers before he started doing the voiceover tracks for the matches. The most blatent example of this was when Ninotchka turned good. During her matches after that, Mike kept talking negatively about her and how she "turned her back on her fans"!!!  :o

do you guys remember any of the other women of wrestling (in the 80's) like

Missy Hyatt (manager/valet), Elizabeth (valet), Madusa (manager/valet) Sherri(manager/wrestler), Sunshine manager/valet), Wendi Richter(wrestler), Toni Adams (manager/valet) , Dark Journey (manager) etc.

These women werent on G.L.O.W. but I used to watch alot of other wrestling
shows on t.v. never saw alot of actual women wrestling matches aside from G.L.O.W.
most of the women I remember were managers or valets. I think Wendi,Madusa,Sherri
and a few others were the only other females that were on T.V  wrestling.

I really wasnt aware of Madusa until the early 90's on WCW but I've seen some tapes of
her from the 80's so I'll mention her.

also did any of you watch that show a couple of years back? it used to come on really late at
night. it's called WOW (Women of Wrestling) It was like a newer version of G.L.O.W.
with the exagerrated characters and skits. it was hilarious. I taped a couple of the shows.
I can't seem to find it though :(

http://www.amyaction.com/womenswrestlingamericawow.html
I remember that David McLane was also the ring announcer, and that the "bad" wrestlers would always beat the crap out of him. They always taped G.L.O.W. in the same place--some casino in Vegas, and for some reason I thought that added a bit of a "sleaze factor" to the show.
I don't think a lot of the things G.L.O.W. did back then would fly today. It was gloriously politically incorrect, with villains such as "Palestina," a stereotypical Arabic-looking female terrorist who allegedly hailed from Damascus, Syria; and a mental patient named "Dementia" (who was so good in her role that she genuinely creeped me out) who would always sneak a hatchet into the ring.
I also remember that a lot of the stunts they did went far beyond traditional wrestling maneuvers and seemed to be quite dangerous. The aforementioned "mental patient" wrestler would swing her hatchet perilously close to her opponents, and I remember one match in particular where this tag team called "The Heavy Metal Sisters" somehow managed to sneak a BLOWTORCH into the ring. One of their opponents was this lovely southern belle named "Sugar," and they whipped out this blowtorch and blasted a HUGE jet of flames right into poor Sugar's face. Sugar immediately went down and was flailing all over the mat, and David McLain kept shouting into the mike, "Sugar's face is severely burnt! Sugar's face is severely burnt!"
Sugar returned to action the next week, but now she was wearing a mask. In a subequent rematch with the "Heavy Metal Sisters," one of the sisters got a hold of Sugar, ripped off her mask, and I'll be damned if she didn't look like Freddy Krueger.
Looking back on it all now, I can't help but think that despite the low budget production of the show, the G.L.O.W. wrestlers were damn good at what they did. I think it would be cool if they started showing some reruns on ESPN Classic or something.

Yes the Farmer's Daughters... but which one?  There were at least 3.  Of course they were all beautiful!

This brings back the earlier challenge question.  :-X Which 2 ladies were in the first POWW (the rare one with mostly re-named GLOW Ladies, but quite recognizable), then these 2 ladies actually went back to do the following GLOW shows -seasons 3 and 4?  ??? Don't let the TV air times throw you off, because POWW was a mostly live televised show, and GLOW was a edited and seasonal delayed aired show.
