Subject: Best Dancefloor Filler Of The 80's

Written By: Dave Brown on 03/03/05 at 3:06 am

I like a load of them, but my main favourites would have to be Taffy's "I Love My Radio" (1987) and Pretty Poison's "Catch Me (I'm Falling" (also from 1987).

I'd go with Niko and Blue Monday.  Anything by Erasure was a pretty good dance floor filler in the club I went to as well.

You're proably right. For some reason I keep thinking of Jan. 1987, for that song. I don't know why.
I do know it was used in the movie "Hiding Out".

Most people were getting tired of those John Hughes kinda movies (like that one) by then anyway.

I also voted for "Catch Me (I'm Falling)".

Well I wouldn't call Duran Duran's songs dance hits, but you would do with singles such as "Notorius", "All She Wants Is" "I Don't Want Your Love" and "Burning The Ground".

New Order's "Blue Monday" was originally released in 1983 but only available as a 12" single and still remains the biggest 12" ever. It did, however, get the remix treatment in 1988.

Stutter Rap was a big dance floor filler here. Cant remember who sang it now.

So was:

Pump Up The Jam by Technotronic

Kids In America by Kim Wild

Makin Your Mind Up by Bucks Fizz

The Stroke by Billy Squire

Echo Beach by Martha And The Muffins

Walking On Sunshine by Katrina And The Waves

Love Changes Everything by Climie Fisher

I Got The Power by Snap

Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry

and there were many others

The biggest one of the early 80's was Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham

The biggest one of the mid 80's was Ghostbusters by Ray Parker jr

The biggest one of the late 80's was Doctorin The Tardis by The Timelords (who I think Ive heard somewhere became KLF).

Stutter Rap (No Sleep 'Til Bedtime) was a big hit for Morris Minor & The Majors in 1987.
