Subject: Who are the artists behind these songs?

Written By: Ziplock on 03/28/05 at 1:22 pm

Hello everyone.  Let me introduce myself first, I'm Ziplock and I grew up with mid-90’s to present music.  When someone gave me discs of 80’s stuff, I begun to like the music of that era; however I’m clueless of the artists behind those songs.  This may sound silly but given only the song titles, please help me identify who sang these following songs:  (I also included snippet of the songs, please click the link.  I used Yousendit, so those clips will stay there for only 7 days)

1) NEVER YOU DONE THAT

- Male vocals.  New Wavish song.  There’s a line that goes like:

Well who will you guess
I guess I'm sure…

Never you done that
Don't ever you go too far away from me girl
Never you done that
Don't ever you go too far away don't even think of saying

Never You Done That (snippet) <-- click this

2) PRETTY BOY
- Male vocals.  Sound New Wave too.  Lyrics goes..

Sometimes what you want us….

Hey you're such a pretty boy (3x)
Everything

Pretty Boy (snippet)  <-- click this

3) SAHARA NIGHTS
- Male vocals.  The lyric goes…

Sahara night sahara night
toot too toot
oh haah oh haaa oohh ohh ohh

Listen to the wind
Bringing to the ears
Music from the far
You may hear the sounds
Of the tribal ___
Coming from the heights

In the ___ I feel
Fever so high
Makes me wanna shout

Sahara Nights (snippet) <-- click this

4) STREET BEAT
- Female vocals.  Sounds like in a cheering squad.  The song goes:

Put out the door
I'm not a toy (drum beats)

Street Beat (snippet) <-- click this

5) TELEPHONE
- Female vocals. Sounds like 80’s bubblegum that goes:

Long long distance love affair oh ohh
I can't find you anywhere
I call you on the telephone
but you never home...

Telephone (snippet) <-- click this

This is but a first in the series of seemingly silly questions, be wary receiving more.

Thanks Jennifer028 and ktelqueen; those were real great help!  Actually I tried Googling those songs before going here.  That is why I can’t find any information on the net about the Telephone song, I got it in wrong spelling, it should’ve been "Telefone."  And about the English Beat, after few years of accomplishment they disbanded and some of the members form another band, the General Public and Fine Young Cannibals.  And every time I look for that Sahara song, I always directed to Anggun, Erykah Badu, Cliff Richards, and Rick Springfield.

Thanks really guys, not only I learned about the artists, I also learned some of the 80’s music history.  I'm still looking for artist information of these songs:

Pretty Boy

Street Beat

So anyone, any help would be appreciated.

And add these songs to the list:

1) ASIA
- Female vocals; the guitar twanging sounds oriental, there's a line that goes...

I never travel far from Europe...
Asia
Asia

"Asia" music clip

2) GIVE ME JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME
- Female vocals; upbeat sound, and goes...

Give me just a little more time
Our love will surely go
Give me just a little more time
Our love will surely go
Life's too short to make a mistake
Let's make up each other and hesitate

"Give Me Just A Little More Time" music clip

3) TERMINAL
- Male vocals; kinda schmaltzy that goes...

I've come back this morning to where I first came alive
Here within this terminal where the bus is around
I was a commuter only 8:04
Booked for a computer on the 19th floor
And oh, down into the terminal both on the spire
So we enter the terminal just as you smile

"Terminal" music clip

4)SOLID
- Female and male vocals; the woman sounds like Gloria Estefan, and the man sings in soulful falsetto voice...

And for love's sake
Each mistake
Oh you forgave
And so both of us
Learn to trust
Not runaway
It was no time to play
And build it up
And now it's solid, solid as a rock...
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hot

"Solid" music clip

5) RICO MAMBO
- Male vocals; upbeat danceable tune

It's like a morning ...
And changes everything inside
Always joking about it
Always I try to figure it out
Always better not think about it
It's easy how to fall in love
Oh Rico Mambo, oh Rico Mambo yeah
I got a feeling everytime that you can
it's mambo

"Rico Mambo" music clip

Although I don't like some of these songs that I'm asking (I'm more into Rock, Alternative, Heavy Metal kinda guy), it's really important for me to know who sang these songs.  I hate it that there are songs in my stash with mystery artists.  Besides, once I recognize who is behind that loathsome ditty in my collection, it's easy for me to identify whom I'm giving tonsillectomy-without-anesthesia with.  :)

Solid is by Ashford and Simpson.

Try typing some of the lyrics into Google.  For example to check I had the correct artists I typed "solid as a rock" +lyrics

Hey thanks, Karen!  Now I know where Ashlee Simpson got her name.  ;D

Karen, yes I tried that procedure before, but once I got to the 10th page and still can’t find the exact lyrics I’m looking, I gave up the idea. Since most of these songs gives you the urge to throttle musicians, our society is probably doing its part to save humanity by eliminating these stupid songs to the civilization.  So that someday, after the demise of every humans and animals on earth in a nuclear holocaust, when extraterrestrials will began poking in the rubble of our civilization and discover fragments of our pop culture, they will not reckon that earth creatures are purveyors of brain-dead elevator muzak.

Using a program similar to "Napster", I found out who sang the following song (that means there are still copies of it around):

What’s Your Name (Pretty Boy) – DEPECHE MODE <-- This is a good song, and should be preserved.

Give Me Just A Little More Time  – KYLIE MINOGUE <-- I’m not sure of this.  Does it mean that she’s that old?  Anyway, we must delete this song in our civilization.

Terminal  – RUPERT HOLMES <--  Another song that could melt your brain, we must annihilate every copy of this.

Still a mystery:

Street Beat
Asia
Rico Mambo

Anyone who knows the artists behind those songs I mention, please kind enough to tell me.  It’s your simple way of saving our society, and I’ll do the rest to exterminate them.  They are just in hiding.

Kylie was born in 1968 - she turned 37 this year- it really isnt "THAT" old - specially since I turn it next week !. She released her first single in 1987.  She has had number one albums and singles in the 80's 90's and 2000's.

This one is by F.R.David...whomever that is...you can easily search these on the net you know....

F.R. David is better known for his 1982 smash hit "Words" (though I think it was only a smash hit in Europe). I have no further information on the artist, other than that F.R. David is not his real name.

What’s Your Name (Pretty Boy) – DEPECHE MODE <-- This is a good song, and should be preserved.

The song was written by Vince Clarke, one of the founders of the band. He left soon after their take off to form Yazoo (or Yaz in US, with Alison Moyet) and subsequently Erasure (with Andy Bell).
"What's your name" can be found on Depeche Mode's debut album Speak And Spell.

I would definately put myself in her place when t came to her figure, her talent, and her money - but I wouldnt put myself in her place this year during her 6 month battle with breast cancer.
