Bruce Springsteen - Dancin' in the Dark....ive been trying to figure out if its an ex...or a person from a far or something that he treffering to too...can anyone help?

Great song - one of my favorites!
The story I've heard is that it's about, more or less, a guy who's depressed and pondering over his life - something along those lines. It's another one of those 80's songs where the meaning itself is obscured by the music's happy sound.

Dancing in the dark, I think means pottering around in the dark, not really knowing what one is doing, or where one is going. From reading the lyrics, I would agree that the subject is depressed, unsatisfied with his life. Quite often when feels this way, one looks for a relationship or failing that, a bit of sex to brighten one's spirit. Not sure about the line:
This gun's for hire
I can guess that it might mean, "I'm available."
