Agree most of this list is beyond terrible with these exceptions:

46. Katrina & The Waves "Walking On Sunshine" Not bad
44. Micheal Sembello "Maniac" Overplayed but ok
42. Sade "Smooth Operator" I liked this song
36. Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" Yes, it got REAL OLD from " Top Gun " but I liked this one
32. Patrick Swayze "She's Like The Wind" For an actor he doesn't have a bad voice
19. Cher "If I Could Turn Back Time" NOT a Cher fan but I liked this one.
14. Dionne Warwick & Friends "That's What Friends Are For" The one with Elton John? This should not be on the list at all.
6. Taco "Puttin' On The Ritz" This song is actually quite old and Taco covered it. It is WAY too long and repeats like 4 times but is an interesting song anyway. I usually listen to it once a year or so the first half of the song.

Apparently you have never heard of G.G. Allin as ANYTHING by him would be worse than what is on this list ( Except We Built This City by Starship-That is considered by MANY to be one of the worst songs in history ).

Disagree with the following:
46. Katrina & The Waves "Walking On Sunshine" -bit cheezy but catchy!
43. Chicago "You're The Inspiration" -I think it's quite beautiful.
42. Sade "Smooth Operator" -heard it a bit too often but it aint a bad little song.
36. Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" -ditto.
29. Beach Boys "Kokomo" -not a patch on what they did in the 60s, but still works for me.
31. Miami Sound Machine "Conga" -groovy little number and features in one of my fave comedies, Analyse This!
26. Donna Summer "She Works Hard For The Money" -well, I like it!
24. Whitney Houston "The Greatest Love Of All" -great voice, good song, just played to death!
23. Lipps Inc. "Funky Town" -that's groovy! Much better than Pseudo Echo, IMO!
19. Cher "If I Could Turn Back Time" -overplayed but underated in this instance.
18. Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)" -got into heaps of trouble with my Christian parents for singing along to this one, I likes it! ;)
16. Bobby McFerrin "Don't Worry, Be Happy" -don't know what so many people have against this song, I think it's great!
14. Dionne Warwick & Friends "That's What Friends Are For" -am very fond of that song!
11. The Weather Girls "It's Raining Men" -stupid lyrics, but great to dance to!
5. Air Supply "All Out Of Love" -the only song of theirs I actually like!
3. Starship "We Built This City" -80s classic!
1. Steve Perry "Oh Sherrie" -good song!

Strongly agree with the following:
45. Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" -YUCK!
34. Stryper "Honestly" -SHHHHLOPPPP!!!
28. Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up" -BORING!
21. Tiffany "I Saw Him Standing There" -Beatles abortion!

You're right on most of them but

49. Bill Withers featuring Grover Washington Jr. "Just The Two Of Us"

shouldn't be in that list.

(just my opinion)

Yes, I am embarresed to admit this but I do like "We Built This City" by Starship. ::) ;D

Well, I "came out" on that one myself (heck, I even did a Starship song poll!), so that should make it a little easier on ya! ;D

On that level, I've gotta admit, I like almost all the songs on that list - most of 'em I own or have put on tape before.

The only ones I don't like (which I agree with as that placement) are:

"Hold on to the Nights" (Richard Marx had some good ballads - this ain't one of 'em, too boring and slow! "Endless Summer Nights" is much much better choice), and "Puttin' on the Ritz" - just annoying and not very memorable.

To expand on that, I'll also say I never cared for "Addicted to Love." I don't dislike it per se, but to me it's not worthy of making almost every 80's compilation out there - it's very pedestrian sounding, for lack of a better description.

PS: I do like Robert Palmer though (was saddened when he died a couple years back :( ), especially "Simply Irresistable", "Hyperactive" and in the Power Station - man, they rocked pretty hard for a 'pop' band! :)

Well, what about him? I love Sunglasses at night!

Anyway, although I don't know all the songs on your list, I can't say that I totally disagree. It's not like they're my favourite songs...
Thanks for "reminding" me of Laurie Anderson, "Tiffers" and Bruce Willis....

I can think of only one song that's DEFINITELY missing: "Save your love" by Renee & Renato.
Consider yourself lucky if you've never heard it.

Sorry but IMO, it took absolutely NO "Talent" to say "Can't Touch This" over and over again ::) He also, like most rappers, ahd to use somebody else's music because they didn't have any talent to play any instruments themselves, much less write something of substance.

48. Glenn Medeiros "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" It's so so cheesy, but I have such a soft spot for it! The video is awful though, always laugh when I see it!
46. Katrina & The Waves "Walking On Sunshine" A fun little ditty
45. Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" Not great,. but I wouldn't put it on a 'worst list'
44. Micheal Sembello "Maniac" Yes the verse is awful, but the intro makes the song!
42. Sade "Smooth Operator"
33. Pointer Sisters "I'm So Excited" I love this!
32. Patrick Swayze "She's Like The Wind" I like the song, even though Patrick cannot sing
28. Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up" Ahh the memories
26. Donna Summer "She Works Hard For The Money"
24. Whitney Houston "The Greatest Love Of All" I think this is one of her best!
23. Lipps Inc. "Funky Town"
14. Dionne Warwick & Friends "That's What Friends Are For"

I'm sorry,. but where is Renee and Renata - Save Your Love??? That truely is the worst 80s song. Oh, and 7 Tears by the Goombay Dance Band! God awful!!

There were exactly 4126 songs that peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart from 1980-1989.  I know what every one of those songs sound like, and I gotta tell ya.. I can come up with a list longer than 50  ;D

Here's just a few:

Be Good Johnny - Men at Work (This one didn't chart in America.  You guys lucked out)
Oh Sheila - Ready For the World
Rush - Closer to the Heart (Originally 1977, it re-charted in 1982)
Jennifer Holliday - And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going

Whoever made that list either picked the names at random from a hat, or really didn't buy many records during the 80's, because it has no real accuracy whatsoever in my book.

Only one  Stock, Aiken and Waterman song in the whole list in Rick Astley?  Do me a favour!  >:(

You could populate the entire list from 1988-1989 alone when the 80's really turned bad.  My picks would include:

Kylie
Jason Donovan
Sonia
Big Fun
Brother Beyond
Yazz
Jive Bunny

I don't waste my time reading these lists that appear in Music magazines or websites because usually they just wind me up.

You're right of course, but I think that Hammer delivered those lyrics in a way that Rick Stevens didn't with the original, and turned a good song into a classic.

And unlike a lot of modern Rap stars, he didn't turn the lyrics into vulgarity, or ramble on about how he was going to shag every ho on 2 legs or smack his parents up for confiscating his toy collection when he was 8 years of age.

'U Can't Touch This' should be taken for what it was - a very catchy tune layered with lashings of cheesy lyrics.  :D

Woops, you must not have listened to the radio much in the 80's, Because, just like Goat, I love most of these too.

I've heard these songs from compilation CDs, radio stations, and music videos since the mid 1990's.

Though was born in 1984, I'm not a fan of today's garbage.

BTW, I don't mind if anybody dislike Deborah "Debbie" Gibson, though I prefer her entire "Out of the Blue" album than anything from B.S.

Sorry, I have such a soft spot for Kylie. She makes good pop music nowadays especially. But when I think of her SAW days they just remind me of being a kid, so I still like her!! And I used to fancy Jason Donovan! I wanted to be Kylie and marry Jason when I was the tender age of 5 :D

Hi Chasey - I hope you will check out the 'MC Hammer pants' thread that is very popular with posters    ;D ;D

Here's the 50 worst songs from the '80's. Based on my opinions & songs I've heard.

Fell free to disagree or agree on this list.  :)

OK here goes, I left out some I didn't really remember.

50. Laurie Anderson "O Superman (For Massenet)"
You probably don't understand this piece of music.  Refer to the Minimalist school of music (Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Alvin Lucier, etc.), the nuclear arms race, and Jules Massenet's 1885 opera, "Le Cid."
49. Bill Withers featuring Grover Washington Jr. "Just The Two Of Us"
Pretty dull soul pop if you ask me.
47. Twisted Sister "Leader Of The Pack"
File under "burlesque," ala John Waters!
46. Katrina & The Waves "Walking On Sunshine"
Excruciating Petula Clark rip off.  Recently used to refer to Hurricane Katrina.
45. Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car"
Yeah, pretty dumb!
44. Micheal Sembello "Maniac"
Monotonous dance pop, but I've definitely heard worse!  "Flashdance" soundtrack way overplayed in '83.
43. Chicago "You're The Inspiration"
A very sappy song, and I always hated Chicago's whiny vocal harmonies.
42. Sade "Smooth Operator"
I liked this silky lounge-style torch song, but it was and is way overplayed!
39. Paul McCartney featuring Michael Jackson "Say, Say, Say"
Kind of nifty, but too cutesy for me...and overplayed in '83!
38. Randy Newman "I Love LA"
Newman's quite witty sometimes, but I never liked this song.
37. Jack Wagner "All I Need"
All I need is a bucket to barf in!
36. Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone"
Any Kenny would make my Top 50 worst!
35. Kool & The Gang "Celebration"
Forever reminds me of the roller rink when I was a kid.  Airplay overkill on this one.
34. Stryper "Honestly"
They used to throw bibles into the audience, but the Christian Right hated them anyway.
33. Pointer Sisters "I'm So Excited"
Again, o-v-e-r-p-l-a-y!
31. Miami Sound Machine "Conga"
ibid.
30. Accept "B__s To The Wall"
Oh come on!  You gotta raise your fist and sing along with this one!
29. Beach Boys "Kokomo"
Well, they were the "Beach Men" by the '80s, but at least most of them were still alive!
28. Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give You Up"
I get him mixed up with Richard Marx, the other vapid hunk.
27. Eddie Murphy "Party All The Time"
I'm Rick James beeeyaahtch!  Sounds like Rick and Eddie went in with a synth and a drum machine and ripped this one in about two takes!
26. Donna Summer "She Works Hard For The Money"
Donna got prudish by '83, so she posed with a waitress for the jacket photo.  But this song ain't about nooooo waitress!
25. Christopher Cross "Arthur's Theme"
I could never stand Cross's crummy counter tenor.  Sounds more like castrato!  My sister said Christopher Cross is the "state music of Florida"!
24. Whitney Houston "The Greatest Love Of All"
"No matter what they take from me, they can't take away my dignity..."  Oh, yes they can!
23. Lipps Inc. "Funky Town"
I do so enjoy the blippy synth riff and the vocoded voice.  I mean, it's inane, but doesn't belong on the "worst" list.
22. Donny Osmond "Soldier Of Love"
A memorable comeback with such a forgettable song!
20. Bruce Willis "Respect Yourself"
"The Return of Bruno"!  This guy's ego has no safety switch.
19. Cher "If I Could Turn Back Time"
Annoying and dumb, the usual Cher fair.
18. Paul Lekakis "Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)"
We were just talking about this ine on the "cheesy" thread.  There is good cheesy and bad cheesy, "Boom Boom" is definitely bad cheesy!
17. Richard Marx "Hold Onto The Nights"
Richard Marx: see Rick Astley.  Rick Astley: see Richard Marx
16. Bobby McFerrin "Don't Worry, Be Happy"
The Clarence Thomas of jazz.
15. Buster Poindexter "Hot, Hot, Hot"
BP was the alter ego of David Johannson (sp?), formerly of the New York Dolls.  This was assanine pseudo-Salsa.  I prefer The Cure's "Hot Hot Hot"!
14. Dionne Warwick & Friends "That's What Friends Are For"
Like Hallmark cards and puppy posters, make me wanna fwo up!
12. Hear N' Aid "Stars"
But they had good intentions...and Spinal Tap!
11. The Weather Girls "It's Raining Men"
Oh, this was a fun song! Co-written by Paul Shaffer. It became a gay anthem.
10. Winger "Purple Haze"
Uhhh, this was just wrong.
9. Milli Vanilli "Girl You Know It's True"
It was stupid and all, but I thought MV got a raw deal in the end.
8. New Kids On The Block "Hangin' Tough"
Goes with out saying, I suppose.
7. Don Johnson "Heartbeat"
See Bruce Willis and Jack Wagner.
6. Taco "Puttin' On The Ritz"
Pick on Taco all you want, but you better not diss Irving Berlin!
5. Air Supply "All Out Of Love"
High on Nitrous Oxide, getting my tooth drilled.  That's what Air Supply reminds me of.
4. Journey "Open Arms"
For all your pizza parlor jukebox short pants romances! Feh.
3. Starship "We Built This City"
Everybody hates WBTC, but it's not as bad as its Starship contemporary, "Sara."
2. '85 Chicago Bears "The Super Bowl Shuffle"
Again, pretty bad, but not as bad as "Wrestler's Rhapsody."
1. Steve Perry "Oh Sherrie"

I wouldn't stick "Oh Sherrie" at #1 worst for the entire decade, but it is Steve Perry, so I'm not gonna argue!

Whoah!  G.G. is a whole other kind of bad.  You're talking sociopathic, antisocial, narcissistic, sexually sado-masochistic, pedophiliac, corprophagic, exhibitionist, morbidly alcoholic, heroin-addicted, criminally-minded,  self-destructive bad.  G.G. Allin is another story, but you couldn't even tell it candidly on this board!

Heh heh, basically when Stock Aitken and Waterman were heading for the knacker's yard.  ;D

However, even Big Fun (as completely banal and boring as they are) scored a few hits - surprising what three men with no personalities can do, isn't it?  ;D

However, I loved Kylie and Jason's music in this particular period of time. S/A/W saw an opportunity and they seized it (climaxing with 'Especially for you') before heading off in their own direction. At least the 'Neighbours' connection was kept in place.

I disagree with some of the songs you chosen as the worst.  :-\\

1. Smooth Operater- It did have a smooth jazzy vibe to it
2. Oh Sherrie- Im one of the few who love Steve Perry's voice hated the video though
3. Greatest Love of All- Definitely over the top but hear that song at every junior high school graduation.
4. Celebration- How can I hate this its performed at every wedding, graduation, bar mitsvah, funeral
5. Open Arms- Ultimate prom song and Valentine's Day requested song
6. She Works Hard For the Money- The anthem of every working woman.
7. Im So Excited- A Song that she be played in every strip club around the world
8. Balls to the Walls- Love the title of this song dont know the verses just the chorus
9. All I Need- Over the top last note had a girlish pitch but I was a Jack Wagner fan.

This is my list of worst songs :-X

1. Kryrie or Broken Wings by Mister Mister
2. One Night in Bangkok by Murry Head (What is this song about?)
3. Rock Me Amadeius by Falco
4. Into The Night by Benny Mardones (creepy song)
5. Xandu by Olivia-Newton-John (The movie was bad too)
6. Far From Over by Frank Stallone (Sly's less talented brother)
7. Harlem Shuffle by the Rolling Stones
8. Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue (Never liked this remake)
9.  Just Like Paradise by David Lee Roth
10. Wild Boys by Duran Duran
11. Change by John Waite

The only ones I disagree with are

43. Chicago "You're The Inspiration" - not one of their best, but I still listen to it and feel nostalgic
37. Jack Wagner "All I Need" - ok, this is not the best song, but there are so many more that I think are worse, and I think Jack is sexy, so I'll let him off the hook
29. Beach Boys "Kokomo"- I like this song, and it has the '80s feel
17. Richard Marx "Hold Onto The Nights"- I just like Richard. Even if this isn't one of his best. It's still one I can listen to

Christopher Cross- Arthur's theme- One of my favourites

I'm tempted to agree with Rick Astley 'Never gonna give you up' but it brings back memories.
