From what's listed I like these two the best

Cruel Summer, Bananarama

and these are fine too but I heard them just one too many times back in the '80s

Caribbean Queen, Billy Ocean
The Glamorous Life, Sheila E.
Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Yes
Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now), Phil Collins
What's Love Got To Do With It, Tina Turner

And you missed (didn't list) some of my favorites from 1984  :(
(at least they were 1984 songs where I live)

Time (Clock of the Heart) -- Culture Club
Love Plus One -- Haircut One Hundred
Human Nature -- Michael Jackson
All Through The Night -- Cyndi Lauper
Forget Me Nots -- Patrice Rushen

Great list!

As I've said on here before, 1984 is my ALL-TIME favorite year for music - period (and that says alot, since I like so much). I just wish I could've been older than two at the time! ;D

I honestly liked every song on there, but after several minutes of pick and choosing (I tried to look at it as if I were making a 25-song mixtape, without repeating any artists), mine was:

When You Close Your Eyes, Night Ranger
On The Dark Side, John Cafferty
Round And Round, Ratt
Wrapped Around Your Finger, Police
Love Somebody, Rick Springfield
Almost Paradise, Mike Reno and Ann Wilson
Infatuation, Rod Stewart
If Ever You're In My Arms Again, Peabo Bryson
Eyes Without A Face, Billy Idol
Heart And Soul, Huey Lewis
Oh Sherrie, Steve Perry
I Can Dream About You, Dan Hartman
Say It Isn't So, Daryl Hall and John Oates
Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper
Dancing In The Dark, Bruce Springsteen
Missing You, John Waite
Self Control, Laura Branigan
Owner Of A Lonely Heart, Yes
Hello, Lionel Richie
Jump, Van Halen
Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now), Phil Collins
Magic, Cars
Borderline, Madonna
You're The Inspiration, Chicago
Lawyers In Love Jackson Browne

Just for fun, a few other '84 hits I like that weren't on the list:

Wake me up Before you Go-Go - WHAM
Runaway - Bon Jovi
Two Sides of Love - Sammy Hagar
The Lucky One - Laura Branigan
Club Michelle - Eddie Money (was that '83?)
Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen
Allright - Christopher Cross
Feel it Again - Honeymoon Suite
Old Man Down the Road - John Fogerty
Some Guys Have All the Luck - Rod Stewart
Naughty Naughty - John Parr
Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart
I Wanna Rock - Twisted Sister
Into the Fire - Dokken
High on You - Survivor
Out of Touch - Hall & Oates

Thanks Marty...I loved 1984 as well only I wish as wasn't as old as I was....to be, maybe a young teenager, would have been nice. Though I did meet a very wonderful lady that year.

Yeah, I know what that's like, LOL. But I'm glad you had a great year then too. :)

BTW I checked your profile and it says you're 45 - meaning you were about 24 then. If it's any consolation to you (or your younger self), I'm 23 and a half and I feel 7 at heart! ;D

Thanks, I still feel like I'm 24! Only problem with that is if I happen to catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror :\'(

Ah, Michael J Fox is 44 this year and he doesn't look it. ;)

Everyone tends to be hard on themselves (I know I sure am!) - I'm not sure what you look like, but in today's world, an "average" 45 could probably pass as late 30's at least!

I've spent my entire life being hard on myself :-\\ You can see what I look like in the "Show us what you look like" thread in Playful Penguin Place...but be warned, it's not a pretty site....except for the ladies I'm with in the pictures :)

That's funny, I wouldn't have said either - I thought it was '83.

I know their HUGE first two hits "We got the Beat" and "Our Lips are Sealed" were 1981/82.

I don't mean to burst your bubble here RNR, but you've got "When Doves Cry" on the list twice. Perhaps you meant to put down a different Prince song like "Purple Rain", or "Let's Go Crazy"?

Even though I own all those songs already (except for the John Lennon one -- although I like the Beatles alot anyway), I think I'll make about 4 mix tapes just going in the exact order your list goes.

Mark, I don't know if you intended it to, but it flows very well reading from top to bottom! :D

I tried not to vote for the obvious ones - not that I don't like 'em, but after a while they lose their charm. Like I've heard karma Chameleon way too many times and the song today isn't what it was in 84 if that makes sense.

I loved "Talking in Your Sleep" and I really LOVE Sheila E "Glamourous Life". Peabo Bryson got a vote too.
