My 2nd favorite year for music (right before 1984) - picking is gonna be hard, but I'll go with 25. Some might've come out in '84 but were singles in '85:

Power of Love - Huey Lewis (for obvious reasons!).:D
California Girls - David Lee Roth
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears
Can't Fight this Feeling - REO Speedwagon
Money's too Tight to Mention - Simply Red (can't believe someone else mentioned this! Lost new wave classic!)
Centerfield - John Fogerty
Sussudio - Phil Collins
I Wanna Know What Love is - Foreigner
Take on Me - Aha
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
Smokin' in the Boys Room - Motley Crue
We Built this City - Starship
Lovin' Every Minute of it - Loverboy
All I Need - Jack Wagner
Material Girl - Madonna
The Search is Over - Survivor
You Belong to the City - Glenn Frey
Tough all Over - John Cafferty
We Don't Need Another Hero - Tina Turner
These Dreams - Heart
Don't Come Around Here - Tom Petty (scary, but it's still a good song!) :P
I found Someone - Laura Branigan
Fortress around Your Heart - Sting
Sentimental Street - Night Ranger
Small Town - John Mellencamp

Wow, even with that, it was hard narrowing it down! ;)

I found Someone - Laura Branigan
Fortress around Your Heart - Sting

Fortress Around Your Heart, LOVE that song! And that Laura Branigan song, of course.  ;) The original version before Cher made it a monster hit a few years later.

I found this a bit hard to narrow down too....But here they are off the top of my head (some not necessarily big hits):

The Firm- Radioactive (minor hit)
Laura Branigan- Hold Me (again, minor hit)
Mylene Farmer- Plus Grandir (didn't say anything about a European-hit-only song  ;))
Glenn Frey- The Heat Is On
Pet Shop Boys- West End Girls (might've been late 85/early 86....)
Daniel Balavoine- Aimer est plus fort que d'etre aime
Animotion- Obsession

And that's all I can think of for now

I see a couple of songs I forgot all about "One night in Bangkok" and "Fortress Around Your Heart" are getting mentioned.

Who can forget

You`re talking to a tourist, whose every move`s among the purest.
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine.
;D

And

I recognized the walls that I once made.
I had to stop in my tracks for fear of walking on the mines I'd laid.

Might be a little obscure but I really like (and am actually listening to it as I write this) Clan of Xymox's self-titled debut.  Check out the track "7th time", I think this song captures the "feel" of that time perfectly.  I have their whole catalog, probably one of my all-time favorite bands.

Well I don't know if I would sell my sould to go back to the 80s but I sure do miss the look and feel of the 80s. Guys looked so awesome with that long hair, and us girls got to dress any way we wanted to. Tight jeans vs saggy /baggy give me tight anyday. The music, can't say I miss it because I have such a large library I can hear it all day long on stereo or computer. :D

Some great listings here!

Agree with pretty much all that's been submitted, another gem from 1985 was Stephen 'TinTin' Duffy's excellent 'Kiss Me', which was produced by J.J Jeczalik from Art Of Noise....who themselves had a hit with the excellent 'Close To The Edit'.
