Subject: 80's songs - suggestions welcome!!

Written By: Sugafairey on 07/18/05 at 4:32 pm

Hi! I have an audition to be lead singer with an 80's cover band in a week, any ideas of some decent songs to learn?

Suggestions welcome, songs sung by women preferable as I am somewhere between a chick and a broad.

What sort of music will they be focusing on? Rock, Metal, Pop...a variety?

'Close My Eyes Forever'-Lita Ford, 'Rooms on Fire'-Stevie Nicks, 'Hate Myself For Lovin You'-Joan Jett, 'Seven Wonders'-Fleetwood Mac, 'Nasty'-Janet Jackson. Sing these songs, you'll blow them away. GOOD LUCK!!

It depends on what sort of music you are covering. If it's new wave, do Blondie!

How about that song 'Piano in the Dark'? I dont remember who sings it. Another good one is Tina Turner's 'We Dont Need Another Hero'. Or Edie Brickell's 'What I Am'.  :D

A Blondie song always works. Their music sorta fits into all styles. :)

Any Cure songs could be an exception :)

Why not some of the Eurythmics?  They had some great tunes.

I might actually start an 80's retro band myself, except I'll be mostly doing original songs with maybe a few covers of new tunes and making them sound like the 80's.  I've already written some material which I may be posting soon.  :)

If you liked New Order, Depeche Mode, Billy Idol, Giorgio Moroder, Kraftwerk, and similar acts then you might like it.

Thank you for your support!

I am recording my demo next week so that I don't have to go to millions of auditions.

Hey Suga, before I forget what about doing something from my three favorite women of the 1980's:

the Bangles (especailly "Walk Like An Egyptian")

the Go-Go's (esecially "We Got The Beat")

or Pat Benatar (so many from the song I danced to at my homecoming dance when I was a Senior in High School, "We Live For Love", to the song I got to sing along to here in Atlanta when she was in concert back in 2001, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" or "Love Is A Battlefield" {which Pat and her husband and guitarist played A Capella} or one of her late 1980's tunes:  "All Fired Up").

And of course can't forget an honorary favorite of mine, Annie Lenox from the Eurythmics (especially "Would I Lie To You?" or "Here Comes The Rain Again")    8)
