I'm a huge Starship fan!  My ultimate favorite is "Sara."  That song is beautiful.

As Starship, it was really the end of the line for the group, but yes, 'Sara' is a very nice song. I too prefered them as Jefferson Airplane/Starship.

Well, let's see....my favorite Starship songs would have to be Sara (because that is my name! Only it's spelled with an h but, oh well ;D) I also like We Built This City and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now.

I also love Starship, (was actually just listening to them in the car), but if I never heard
"We Built This City" again, that'd be just fine.

Did u ever see "Back in 1985" on MuchMoreMusic?  They voted that the worst song and video ever .. pretty much trashed it completely.  I e-mailed MMM in a rage after I saw that.  Never heard back from them.  lol

Blender also ranked it as the worst song of all time...

I don't like any incarnation of the band, though there's worse '80's songs than "We Built This City" like "Oh Sherrie" from Steve Perry (No offense to Journey fans, but I just can't Steve Perry's voice)

Well, "We Built this City" is either a love it or hate it song, it seems.

I'm in the love it category. Just for the song itself, it's a perfect party song - upbeat and fun (who cares if it's synthesized or sounds like a Burger King commerical, as VH1 put it!). But since it's in obvious reference to San Francisco and I'm from that area, that makes it more special, LOL. ;)

Also grew up listening to the semi upbeat rock ballad "Sara". From that album, I also now like "Desperate Heart", "Hearts of the World" (both catchy pop/rock which could've been big hits) and the heavier "Rock Myself to Sleep".

The other two albums under the Starship name in the 80's were good too, but not consistantly the way Knee Deep in the Hoopla was.

You forgot the solo works of another member of the group, Mickey Thomas.

Probably his best known work after Starship was the soundtrack to the movie Dream A Little Dream.  He did a cover of the title song, both by himself, and as a duet with Mel Torme.  Both versions were incredible.

I saw him in concert in 1993, and it was incredible.

wasn't "we built this city" on some list of the worst songs of all time? I personally hated that tune.

I liked jefferson airplane but the starship incarnation didn't do much for me. i always thought of them in the same breath as "triumph," for some reason. Maybe they both played flying Vs, or something.

"We Built This City" was a song I absolutely loved at the time and wonder, now how I could ever have listened to it, let alone like it.
