Subject: Did anyone else actually CALL the Ghostbusters?
Written By: pell on 11/24/05 at 3:17 am
Do you remember very briefly (maybe a week or so) in the mid-80s when MTV gave a Ghostbusters phone number that you could actually call? Did you call?
My sister and I tried a few times one day, but I'm pretty sure we didn't get through. I think it was a busy signal every time we tried. I'm curious if anyone got through and what the call was like.

No, actually it was the van with the pull-down ramp, cuz we was special.
Seriously, though, I've always wondered who was at that phone number. Would it have been like calling some radio station promotion or was there someone actually pretending to take calls for the Ghostbusters? I wish we would have persevered until we got through.

No, but I've heard some phone services won't issue the number to avoid people being harrassed.

I never called Jenny or the Ghostbusters, but I did call "853-5937" once (an old hit song by Squeeze) and the number was out of service. LOL

I didnt call, but I do know what the story was -
Just as the movie was about to come out, Columbia bought a whole bunch of late night ads and did a infomertical for Ghostbusters and a 800 number. At the other end they got Bill, Dan and Harold to do a "We're not in at the moment, we're out busting ghosts." recorded message.
Kind of cool - pity I never got a chance to see it.
