Subject: Christopher Cross - 80's poll.

Written By: Marty McFly on 11/28/05 at 5:55 pm

I've been listening to him a bit lately - one of the great "early 80's" pop artists that mixed a 70's singer songwriter sound with an 80's pop sound.

I like all of 'em, but if it had to be one, I'd say "Never Be the Same".

^ I forgot about "A Chance for Heaven" but it's a great inspirational song. Very "80's", but that's a good thing!

P.S. "All Right" is another fave of mine too. Thing is, I remember it on the radio from back in the day, but never knew who it was until a few years ago. By then, I'd totally forgotten about it - I love getting "reacquainted" with songs like that! :)

It was the same for me.  I had no idea it was a Christopher Cross song until like the late 90's.  It's one of my all-time faves of the 80's :)

Is it just me or does Christopher Cross sound like he is singing out of a moving vehicle that is driving away from where you are standing. Does anyone else understand what I mean?

Interesting analogy.  Maybe on some songs, but it has been so long since I've listened to any of them, hard for me to say without listening again.    :)

'All Right'...which must hold the record for the most amount of British airplay without ever becoming a big hit (or was that 'Pilot Of The Airwaves'?)

"Sailing"

Is it just me, or is Christopher Cross the only drive by singer in the biz? He sounds as if he's driving swiftly passed you as he sings his lyrics.

Yeah....it could just be me.

Cross registers in the highest natural male pitch, known as "counter tenor."  In his case, "dis-count-er tenor."  I mean of all the whiny, gelded lounge singers who never should have gotten further than the "Paradise Lounge" in Clearwater...

My sister once remarked, "Christopher Cross is the state music of Florida."

I didn't know whether to vote for Arthur's Theme or Arthur's Theme... really it was pretty close!

Just kidding ... actually I was torn between Sailing and Laura's theme.. I chose Laura's Theme cuz it trailed Sailing by 2 votes
