Subject: Golden Raspberry Awards: Worst Motion Picture of the 80's

Written By: whistledog on 12/07/05 at 3:09 pm

Some of these movies were actually quite good, but officially, all 10 of these movies won the Razzie Award for "Worst Picture of the Year" by the Golden Raspberry Awards (1987 saw a tie).

Which one do you hate the most?

I can honestly say I haven't seen any of 'em...

...heard of a few, but not seen any!

Did they not have one for 1980?

Shame...because the perfect contender there would've been 'Xanadu'...

The critics slammed this hard when this came out...I suppose they were all expecting another 'Grease'! Poor Livvy...

The Razzie Awards didn't begin until 1981.

I have to say Lonely Lady because I have never even heard of it.

I also do not think that Mommie Dearest and Cocktail belong on the Raspberries!

Leonard part 6.

I actually liked Howard the Duck. But I was a kid, what did I know?

howard the duck filled me with rage. i remember actually being enraged.

it still doesn't even come close to touching one tenth the badness of xanadu and leonard part 6 though. i LOVE the xanadu soundtrack -- it's AWESOME! -- and yet it does not thing one to help the movie. that's a unique feat.

I hate to admit it but I liked Xanadu... I even still listen to the soundtrack A LOT....

Howard the Suck ducked....oops I got that backwards but you know what I meant

As for Can't Stop the Music... I also love the soundtrack and have a morbid fascination with the film.  The best screening of it I have ever seen was at a gay art house in San Francisco.... They made a whole night of it. There were drag queen performances and everything. It kind of reminded me of  a Rocky Horror screening.

I tell you what those drag queens are a hoot... no one has fun like a drag queen!

Hmmm.

Nope -Leonard Part 6 wins.

Im going to say Howard the Duck.  Its just plain nauseatingly bad.  Can you believe George Lucas (of Star Wars fame) was the executive producer of this POS?

And with Leonard Part 6..........what the hell was Bill Cosby thinking???  He was the biggest star in the world at the time!

Apparently, he liked Howard the Duck alot better than the "Star Wars Holiday Special".  According to various sources, George Lucas so hated this show that he ordered the return of all copies.  He got back all but 2....

Leonardo - Bill Cosby  ;D I'm always laughing my ass off when thinking of Bill Cosby in South Park...

So I vote Leonardo, BUT why are there Rambo 2 and Coctail???!!! They are both really good 80's flicks.

I loved Mommie Dearest.  It was a bit cheesy, but so was Joan Crawford!  Trivia:  The song "Nightmares" by A Flock of Seagulls was inspired by Mommie Dearest.

"No... wire... hangers!!!! What's wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers EVER? I work and work 'till I'm half-dead, and I hear people saying, "She's getting old." And what do I get? A daughter... who cares as much about the beautiful dresses I give her... as she cares about me. What's wire hangers doing in this closet? Answer me. I buy you beautiful dresses, and you treat them like they were some dishrag. You do. Three hundred dollar dress on a wire hanger. We'll see how many you've got if they're hidden somewhere. We'll see... we'll see. Get out of that bed. All of this is coming out. Out! Out! Out! Out! Out! Out! You've got any more? We're gonna see how many wire hangers you've got in your closet. Wire hangers, why? Why? Christina, get out of that bed. Get out of that bed. You live in the most beautiful house in Brentwood and you don't care if your clothes are stretched out from wire hangers. And your room looks like some two-dollar-a-week furnished room in some two-bit back street town in Okalahoma! Get up! Get up! Clean up this mess."

Does anyone remember Twist of Fate with Olivia Newton John and John Travolta?  It was cheezy but I liked it.

Thanks Whistle Dogg.  I just remembered the song I guess, you're right.  I don't know how to quote yet.  Maybe you could tell me how.  Just started surfing the net believe it or not. :D and learning how to get around in general.

Not quite unique. As a Joe Jackson fan I like the soundtrack of Mike's Murder. Shame about the film. That should be in this list.

The only one I've seen out of this list is Mommie Dearest which I thought was quite good, so I haven't cast a vote.

Hi Bratpac.

I don't know if anyone's told you already (by PM or email) but quoting is easy. Look at the top right-hand corner of a message: you'll see the words "Reply with quote". Click on that and you've quoted!

Howard the Duck HANDS DOWN!! I remember thinking it was crap when it first came out and I was 7 years old! I have to disagree on 'Mommie Dearest' though; I freaking LOVED that movie!!!!

Funny, Bernard Herrmann isn't credited...I don't think it's the same music.
Henry Mancini scored the original music for the "Mommie Dearest" soundtrack.
