We can dance if we want to, eh, we can leave our pants behind, you know?

Or, as Homer Simpson sings it, "You can dance, you can dance, everybody look at your pants."

I like that whip effect in the song.

Lots of whip effects in the 80s...I especially like it when there is a son with a whip effet and they add a dance move to it to emphasize it in the video..

They also have those hard, fake-sounding snares.  Like in the Cars' "Drive", you know what I'm talking about?

yes, I do...and I"m a fan.  there is something sentimental about the cheesiness of these things.

I voted for "Pop Goes the World", one of those 80s songs that just makes me smile when I hear it... :)

That was on the Pop Goes the World album and featured Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson on flute!

I voted for other--
"Modern(e) Dancing"
going clear back to the the original 1980 "Folk of the '80s" EP.

I didn't know he played on it.  Now I know why that flute made that song sound so awesome 8)

Same here. As old as these two songs are, "Safety Dance" still gets overplayed a lot. I never even heard PGTW for the first time until maybe 10 years or so ago.

FTR, I also enjoy Weird Al's parody of "Safety Dance", entitled "The Brady Bunch"; during the second half of the song, he sings the Brady Bunch theme lyrics to the tune of Safety Dance.

That's from the golden age of Weird Al!
