Anyone ever find it odd how some songs that are hits in certain countries are not hits in other countries?

Today, since the world is even more globalized then it was in the '80s, the idea of different regions having different pop cultures is becoming less and less true.  Everywhere seems to be into hip hop now  >:(  :\'(

It's like that here in Canada.  For example ... in the 80's, there were alot of International hits that reached our Canadian top 40 charts, but didn't become hits in America at all.  Here's a few ...

"Black Man Ray" - China Crisis
"If I Was" - Midge Ure
"Don't Turn Me Away" - 10cc
"China in Your Hand" - T'Pau
"Turn Back the Clock" - Johnny Hates Jazz
"One Small Day" - Ultravox
"Video Killed the Radio Star" - Bruce Woolley and the Camera Club
"Only You" - Flying Pickets
"Homosapien" - Pete Shelley
"Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)" - Ottawan
"Holiday Rap" - MC Miker G and Deejay Sven
"Age of Reason" and "Two Strong Hearts" - John Farnham
"My Pretty One" - Cliff Richard
"Through the Years" - Tim Finn
