Subject: Moody Blues influential on '80s music?

I Know You're Out There Somewhere sounds extremely Eighties, even though I think it's '70s.

I'm not too familar with their earlier work, but I think this could be true. Even in the late '60s they had a very "futuristic" appeal to them (in the '70s, so did Alan Parsons Project). I guess stuff like that could be like a VERY early prototype for new wave. Well, they did have a comeback hit around 1986, with "Your Wildest Dreams" which is like spacey new wave.

While I'm not a huge fan, I do like most of what I've heard over the years. Portions of the Moody Blues albums from the 60s/70s have some staggeringly beautiful moments, but that's better explained on another board.  :)

I don't care for any of The Moody Blues music from the 80s. I like their 60s/70s music more.

The very first Moody Blues Album I bought was Long Distance Votager back in 1981.  For some reason, it was the opening synthesizer sequence of The Voice that grabbed me.  After that, I listening through the entire album over and over trying to pick up whatever little details I could in the lyrics of all the songs.  Seemed like there was alot of information coming through those words.

The album cover was cool too.  You look on the cover art and see that each song was represented by a scene in the artwork.  That was a great twist that only the Moody Blues could have pulled of.

In fact, I liked this album so much that I paid tribute to it in my novel, A REASON TO TRY.
