I like Culture club, Kajagoogoo, tpau, depeche mode, duran duran and a few others :)

I quite liked The Smiths, The Jam (that early 80s sound), Motorhead...those sort of bands. I liked the Clash up to London Calling, but that triple album (Sandinita or something like that) was an embarressment...and where it all started to downhill. There were few good Brit bands in the latter 80s (save a few) until the Stone Roses in the very late 80s.

That's not as straight-forward a question as it sounds. Sure, the poms have probably produced more highly successful bands (I need not list them) but the music they played was, essentially American with a British influence. I used to wonder about that myself (I made a few old threads), but if you add The Doors, Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Janis Joplin.etc, it becomes more equal.

Kate Bush (whose distant image you can see operating a rain-making machine in my icon). I also enjoy The Smiths, Jane Siberry's '80s albums, and some other stuff that was made during the decade but doesn't sound anything like the stereotype of "'80s music." :) I also find Madonna's music videos very entertaining and fun, personally.

Whoops! Only British bands and singers, huh? Sorry. I guess I ought to read thread titles a little more carefully. ;)
Well, Kate Bush and The Smiths are in fact British, so half of the artists I listed make sense in response to the question. And, hell, let's just throw Madonna in there too -- she speaks with a pseudo-British accent, after all. ;)
