Subject: Guitarless bands?

Written By: Trimac20 on 04/01/06 at 2:12 am

Can you think of any 'rock bands' from the 80s (or any other era for that matter) (not instrumental ensembles, classical music, full electronic music) who regularly performed live, who did NOT play any guitars at all? In old video clips, I see in some bands the lead guitarist would be replaced by a guy with a keyboard strapped onto his shoulder and would play it like a guitarist wielding his axe. Looked pretty cool...might look a bit strange now. I've been looking for a guitarless band for awhile now, but even synth-pop outfits like Devo seem to have at least ONE guitar.

They used only synths.  It wasn't until the late 80's that they started bringing guitars into their sound

I think A-ha had guitar bass...comparatively few bands used keyboard bass. Kraftwerk were also an interesting group for their era, being composed entirely of synthesizers.
