Subject: What lends synth pop its distinct, friendly sound?

Synth pop has a "friendlier" sound than most other techno and dance music does.  I think this is because the synths tend to be square waves and organ-like, rather than abrasive like techno synths, and also because of the echoey nature of the drum machines.

Also, it uses pop compositions rather than the techno-type compositions.
