Subject: Gordon Lightfoot and Dan Hill in the 80's

Written By: whistledog on 05/20/06 at 2:55 am

I'll betcha didn't know Gordon Lightfoot was around in the 80's ...
In 1982, Gordon Lightfoot had his final U.S. Hit with Baby Step Back which reached #50 on the Billboard Charts.  In Canada, his success continued with a few modest 80's hits, many which were quite popular in the Country charts.  In 1986, he teamed up with David Foster and scored a Canadian Top 40 hit called Anything For Love.  He also appeared as a vocalist on the 1985 benefit single Tears Are Not Enough by Northern Lights which appears on the legendary "We Are the World" album

Dan Hill was also popular in the 80's ...
Dan Hill is often thought of as a one hit wonder for his 1978 hit "Sometimes When We Touch" which was a popular hit in both the US and the UK.  In the 80's, he continued to release albums ... 1980's "If Dreams Had Wings" produced a Canadian hit with "I Still Reach For You".  A follow-up album "Partial Surrender" was a modest success, but did not feature any big hits, then in 1983, his next album "Love in the Shadows" brought him big Canadian success with the almost Top 40 hit Love in the Shadows and the modest hit Helpless.  In 1987, he returned to the U.S. Top 40 with the popular Can't We Try, a duet with then unknown singer Vonda Sheppard from his self-titled album.  A follow-up single Never Thought (That I Could Love) became a near U.S. Top 40 hit.  Both songs reached the Canadian Top 40 and a third single Carmelia was also a Canadian Top 40 hit.  His 1989 album "Real Love" brought him another Top 40 hit in Canada with the track "Unborn Heart"

As you are probably well aware, Jason, I am a big fan of Dan Hill. His singing and sense of soul is incredible. "Sometimes when we touch", "When the song lasts forever" and "Never thought" are tracks that will stay with me forever.

As for Gordon Lightfoot . . . Karen has given me a list of his work to listen to.
