Subject: Bryan Adams vs. Corey Hart - The 80s
Written By: whistledog on 06/24/06 at 9:32 pm
In the 80s, Corey Hart and Bryan Adams sort of had a friendly feud going on to see who would be the more successful Canadian singer. Obviously, Corey did not win in the US, but my question to you ...
Who do you like better ... Bryan Adams or Corey Hart?
NOTE: Corey Hart had no UK Hits

They're both good, but I like Bryan Adams. While they've sort of got a similar sound, I think Corey Hart was more dancey (in the "867-5309" sense), and Bryan was more AOR (at least pre-1992).
BTW, it's ironic that Reckless had 6 hits, but the four that were not were good enough to have been as well (personally, I way prefer "She's Only Happy when she's Dancin" over "It's Only Love", and "Ain't Gonna Cry" is like borderline hard rock).

7 hits actually. I just noticed that "Kids Wanna Rock" hit #42 on the Billboard Rock Chart :)

Neither singer is in my taste, but I definitely think Bryan Adams is a better songwriter. Corey's pretty good too, just not quite as good as Bryan!
I did hear a lot about Corey Hart in high school because my gay friend Scott had a massive crush on him!

Bryan Adams.
When I think of famous Coreys from the 80s, Hart is not the one that comes to mind.

Bryan Adams.
As stated above Corey Hart never had hits in the UK, thus making it difficult to really chose, as I have never heard of him.

Technically, Corey did have 1 UK hit ...
The dance duo Tiga & Zyntherius took "Sunglasses At Night" to UK #25 in May 2002. It featured samples from Corey's original vocals

That record did escape my attention.

But how many other famous 80s Coreys are there?
other than Haim and Feldman? ;D

Cant stand Brian Adams....Hate his voice. His only listenable song is Summer Of 69, and even then only when someone else sings it.
As for Corey Hart....I do remember him, but only barely. Did he sing Sunglasses At Night? If so, then Ill go with him.
if not....Then Ill still go with him.

They are both great singers, but I voted for Corey Hart as I remember more songs from him :)
"While, she's deceiving me....she cut my security...now she's got control of me....I turn to her and say....Don't mess around with a guy in shades, oh no!"
Corey Hart.....ooooooh, with those dreamy pouty lips.......ooooh, child. Especially his 'Sunglasses at Night' video......oooooh.
Someone get me a Doctor!!!
Bryan Adams has ALWAYS been a honey. His 'Run To You' is SOOOOO seductive (and blunt), especially the music video, where he's standing in this "rain" during the guitar riffs. And he talks about it being "So damned easy...making ***** to you....."
(*scream*)

I chose Bryan Adams, but looking at whistledog's chart standings, it would seem that Corey was more successful in Canada if you look at the amount of songs that went to #1 in the 80's vs Bryan Adams.

Wow!!! I had no idea that Corey Hart had so many singles. I only know Never Surrender and Sunglasses. Due to my naivity, or ignorance perhaps, I can only vote for Bryan Adams.

Ah, Bryan Adams plus Corey was more of a 80's artist I mean Bryan Adams did have a few hits in the 90's too.

No. Only because in the battle between the two, someone had to come out the winner lol

Bryan Adams all the way. I like some of Corey's songs, but Bryan's 80s stuff just rocks. Corey is more pop.
For me: his "Reckless" album is the best Canadian album ever. I'd put it ahead of "American Woman" by the Guess Who.

Did I already answer this? Bryan had a string of good songs early on, Cuts Like A Knife album. Corey only had "Sunglasses At Night," I mean, yeah he had others, but Sunglasses was the only one I liked.

Are you serious? You haven't heard Never Surrender, Ain't Enough, Boy In The Box, or Corey's cover of Can't Help Falling In Love? Oh boy! ::)

My favourite Corey song was (and still is) Spot You in A Coalmine. It is an uncredited (though credited in the linear notes) duet with the great Ruby Turner and though it never had an official music video (atleast not to my knowledge), it was still a popular favourite across Canada that can still be heard on radio stations that play 80s music

Here's a little Bryan Adams trivia: His first appearance in the US Top 40 was not as a singer but as a songwriter. With his then song-writing partner Jim Vallance, they wrote a song called Don't Let Him Know which was recorded in 1981 by the Vancouver based rock band Prism. It went on to peak at #39 in the US giving Prism their 4th American hit, and only Top 40 appearance in the Billboard Hot 100
